At the recent Far Western Championships in Santa Clara, LAC swimmers had their best performance ever from a team scoring standpoint. Our team finished in a tie for 14th place out of 156 participating teams, which included the best teams from Pacific Swimming, and several teams from Southern California, Central California, Sierra Nevada, Nevada, Washington, Arizona and Idaho.
A more complete list of highlights will be made in our upcoming newsletter but here are some of the highlights:
Jack Hendrick made 6 out of 7 possible finals, with huge drops including a 15 second drop in the 500. He broke several existing team records
Maddie Gomez made 6 out of 7 possible finals and made her first Sectional cut in the 200 back, becoming the youngest LAC swimmer to qualify for Sectionals at 12 years and 4 months
Jacob Nixon made a new Sectional Cut in the 100 free and got 100% best times, qualifying for two finals swims
Sophia Yu made finals in the 50 fly in her first Far Westerns and improved in 5 out of 7 races
The 13-14 girls 400 Free Relay and 800 Free Relays placed 9th and 5th respectively scoring big points for LAC
Annelyse Combitsis, stepped up in a major way in all LAC relays with 4 best time splits
Aven Lee's best time in the 200 free is 2:04 and she split 1:58 on the relay!

Swimmers achieving best times included: Jack H., Jack D., Chenoa, Jacob, Taber, Scott, Nick, Saige, Sophia, Bryson, Cheryl, Natalie, Aven, Minh-nha, and Scott.
Several of our High School Swimmers achieved lifetime best unshaved times.
Now for our non-high school athletes we will look toward the upcoming Long Course season. For our high school athletes we will continue to work toward great performances at league, NCS and the State meet.
Several of our athletes were not at Far Westerns this weekend because they were travelling to Washington DC for a middle school trip. We wish them safe returns and a great re-integration into school and swimming this week.
We also want to congratulate Tyler Laymon for being selected to participate in a National Junior Select Water Polo Camp this weekend. Way to go!
Please remember that this Sat AM April 14th we will be having a mental training clinic with author and former Cal Women's Tennis coach Kathy Toon. The clinic is open to all LAC althletes mature enough to listen and to all LAC parents. The kids' clinic is from 9-11 at LVTC in the conference room. The parents' clinic is from 11-1 at LVTC in the clubhouse. All kids and parents are encouraged to attend as there will be great information offered that can help us all perform at a higher level and have a more enjoyable experience. This clinic will not be the same as the PCA clinics and will go into specific mental training practices for athletes and specific practices for parents that can help foster great mental toughness in kids.
Thank you LAC parents for the awesome job you did this weekend timing, and supporting your kids. The commitment is huge on your part and it is appreciated.
