MAC Invite

By Coach Alex

The first long course meet of the year is a great opportunity to assess where we are at as a team at the beginning of the new long course season. Swimmers are reminded of the physical and mental challenges that racing in a 50m pool brings. That being said, this weekend we saw plenty of best times and tough racing.

Hudson, Mia, Aden, Preston and Jan all went best times in every event they swam this weekend, no easy task, nice job dragons!

As an athlete continues to progress in this sport, best times become more and more rare, and this is one of those meets where a few more experienced swimmers didn’t achieve any best times. Meets like these early on in the season are not a test of speed, but of how much you are willing to trust in your coach and in the process. Going into a few races these athletes knew that they weren’t likely to go best times, but they still stepped up to the blocks ready to push themselves as hard as they could go at this point in the season. In the same way that we don’t practice swimming a stroke the wrong way, a successful athlete doesn’t practice giving less than their best when they step up to the blocks. This weekend these gold groupers proved why they are successful swimmers.
