PROPOSED STANDING RULE
CHANGE FOR PROOF OF AGE
Regarding proof of age, as swimming is an age defined sport, it is essential that an athlete's correct date of birth be entered in the national SWIMS database. Many other LSCs require this documentation, as do other sports and, of course, schools. Most clubs now have parents register their athletes online, and errors can easily happen during this process. I would estimate I find at least two errors per month when verifying an athlete's date of birth by use of a birth certificate or passport. Without the documentation, there is no way I can be sure the name and date of birth are correct, and both are necessary to ensure an athlete's USA Swimming unique identification number is correct. At this time, approximately 98% of registrations are currently accompanied by proof of age; a Standing Rule requirement might help to obtain those last few documents. LSC FLEX FACT
Flex membership is an opportunity to "build the base" using a cheaper membership. Those with a Flex membership would cost $20, to be shared between the LSC and USA Swimming. A Flex athlete would be restricted to 2 competitions; if the athlete wishes to compete past that time, he/she would upgrade their membership to year-round status by paying the difference in fees. (When times are loaded into SWIMS, if the Flex member has already competed in 2 meets, those times will not count.) USA Swimming requires the LSC to approve (or disprove) this option for the 2019 membership year, which begins September 1, 2018.
