 2018 Canadian Swimming Championships

April 9,2018
Two of our Senior National swimmers, Amanda McCallum and Brian Yu competed in Montreal at the Canadian Swimming Championships. This was a great learning experience for both of them as it brought togther the top junior swimmers in Canada that were trying to qualify for the Junior Pan Pacific Championships and Youth Olympic Games teams taking place this summer. Members of the Canadian Senior National team (not at Commonwealth Games) were also competing.
Amanda McCallum (15), who was a graduate of the Rapids Swim School program, had a personal best time & set a new club record in the 400 Freestyle with a time of 4:25.50. Amanda, qualified for the B final with this swim and placed 16th overall.
Brian Yu (17), had a personal best time in the 50 Freestyle going a quick 23.64 in prelims. Brian qualified swam fast enought to be in the A final but due to being an international swimmer, he had to swim in the B final. Brian currently lives and trains in Beijing. For the past few seasons, Brian has been representing our club at Provincial and National meets. In 2013 Brian trained and competed full time with the Rapids. His cousin Mindy,  is a member is of the RD 3 group at Watermania.
This week, Amanda is back at it at the Western Canadian Championships in Victoria. Head Coach, Rob Pettifer and   12 more Rapids swimmers are attending the meet. Racing begins on Thursday. More updates about the team will be posted to our wesbite or social media pages.
