What do you get when you combine 61 excited swimmers, 14 energetic chaperones, 4 eager swim coaches and 2 focused bus drivers? An unforgettable and safe travel experience in Fernie! Oh where to begin....
Day one was all about the resort. Located up on a mountain, Lizard Creek Lodge did not disappoint. With a majestic mountain view, a chairlift steps away, and large comfy rooms, we were in awe. Evening events included 400m Free and 200m Back. Trex swimmers conquered these events with best performances and new provincial qualifying times! Special recognition to 400 Free athletes: Maxine (1st), Sienna (2nd), Rachel (3rd), Jordan (1st), Amelie (3rd) and Kyla, Addyson, Stefanie, Felicity and Bronwyn for all making top 6. Trex C swimmers Juliet, Natalie, Aiya, Samar, Amelle and Rayah had strong swims shaving off as much as 7 minutes from their previous times. Not to be outdone by the girls, the boys had equally amazing races. Fantastic fast swims by these top 11 swimmers: Andrew (1st), Koen (2nd), Hadrian (3rd), Daniel, Yianni, Ilias, Dominic, Nicholas (1st), Phillip (2nd), Cash (3rd), Demetrios, Matthew, Michael, Lachlan, Dhruv, Mark, and Elias.
200 Back was just as fast with Caitlin (1st), Zoey (2nd), Sonia (3rd), Fiona, Malak, Victoria (1st), Monica (2nd), Rosie (3rd) dominating the top 6 in the ladies events. Tjais (1st), Austin (2nd), Zane (3rd), Max, Charlie (2nd), Colby (3rd), Lucas, Jude and Abtin (1st) leading the boys to top 6 in their events. Strong swims by Karah, Macy (new Provincial time), Alyssa, Kiana, Julianne, Emily, Paige, Jenna, Sadie, and Claudia. For many of these swimmers, this was a first attempt at these events.
Day 2 got off to a very early start. Warm-up was a typical frenzy of splashing arms and legs as our team was crammed into two lanes! It was another very successful day for all our swimmers as we saw many best performances with each swimmer receiving feedback from coaches for future improvements. Individual event results are available on Meet Mobile and Swimming Canada. After a long day at the pool, swimmers enjoyed some recreational swimming in the outdoor hot pool and hot tub! Dinner was a short hike up the snowy ski hill at the Legends Restaurant for a very well received pasta dinner.
Day 3 - time to pack up and go! Another early start to our day did not slow anyone down. The coaches and I were very proud of all the performances and will know what to work on for even faster racing. We were back on the road to Calgary with boxes of pizza, subway sandwiches and smiles.
Tremendous gratitude to our dear chaperones who were the loving arms during this trip. They were on duty from dusk till dawn! It takes great patience and enthusiasm to be a Fernie chaperone and we could not have had a successful travel meet without all the hard work they did to provide the best care for our team. Big thanks to you for being so awesome!
And of course, the coaching team - exceptional coaching by Shane, Eryn and Abby. They were spot on during each event watching our swimmers through the keen lens of an experienced coach. Our Trex team is very lucky to have such dedicated coaches to guide each athlete to not only become a better swimmer but strive to be the best person they can be. We love what we do!
