News and Notes

What an exciting week for FCYST!  The Long Course Season has officially started and we are so excited to be back in the pool!  We do have quite a few new families joining our team, so if our veteran families see a new face, please reach out and introduce yourself.  We will continue with our weekly News and Notes email, please read through them each week as this is how we share all the wonderful things going on with our team and any changes.  If you have any questions, please reach out!  We are happy to help.  It’s going to be an amazing season!

No Practice Friday, April 27:  A reminder that there will not be any practices on April 27 due to our rescheduled Awards Banquet.

Carpool Sign Up:  We will be compiling a list of families who are interested in carpooling again for this season.  The Job Sign Up can be found on our website under the Meets and Events tab.  If you interested in participating in a carpool, please sign up and include the school your child attends and the school district you live in.  We will distribute a list of all interested families and their contact information the second week of May.  It is then the family’s responsibilities to contact the other families and set up the carpool.  More information can be found on our website.

Pirate Plunge Deadline:  The next swim meet deadline to pay attention to is the Pirate Plunge Swim Meet that will be held in Milwaukee at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center.  The deadline to commit your swimmer to this event is May 15th.  This is a new swim meet for a team and one that looks to be a lot of fun.  We would like to see as many families attend this meet as possible.  We do have a hotel room block at the Four Points Sheraton that expires May 1st.  More information about the swim meet and hotel block can be found our website.

Dryland Practices:  All swimmers in Junior Blue and the Seniors groups are expected to participate in our Dryland Training.  We will again be using Bridge Athletics for our Dryland program.  Dryland will start April 30th.  We will have the Orbison Gym again at the Appleton Y on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:45 PM until 4:45 PM for swimmers to come and complete their workout.  A coach will be supervising and swimmers are free to come anytime during that hour to get their workout completed prior to heading over to Lawrence for practice at 5.  There is a 3rd workout each week for the swimmers to complete on their own time.  This workout does not require equipment.  If you did not send your email address to Coach Elizabeth yet, please send it ASAP so your swimmer can start receiving the workouts.

Swim Team Office Contacts:  Below is contact information for the staff in the swim team office.  Please feel free to reach out with any questions, comments or concerns.  For swim team concerns or questions, please contact one of the coaches and for registration or financial questions or concerns, please reach out to Melinda.

Head Coach:  John Thiel

Required Equipment:  We are requiring all FCYST swimmers to have their own pair of flippers this season.  With the size of our groups and with all of our groups practicing at Erb pool this summer, we need all our swimmers to have a pair and bring them to practice every day.  We have all sizes of flippers available to try on for sizing at the Buchanan Y.  FCYST has a team store through Elsmore Swim Shop that has many items for sale.  You can see all Elsmore has to offer, from team suits to team bags and much more, by clicking on the Elsmore logo on left side of our home screen on our website.  There are 6 brand new size 7-9 fins that we have in the swim team office for sale for $19, first come first serve.  Email Coach Elizabeth if you would like to purchase one of these pairs.
