More information on the team travel trip to the UT Summer Games

Mac Swimming,

In preparation for our meeting tonight, I thought I would try to answer some questions regarding the Utah Summer Games.

Our team is excited to attend the Utah Summer Games on July 21-23, 2018. The coaching staff has put together an exciting itinerary with outstanding accommodations. It is our hope that we can get most of our swimmers to attend. In an effort to keep the costs down, the team has subsidized the event.

Understandably, there are many good questions as to Who, What, Where, When, and Why? Please let me answer these questions below?

Who: All swimmers 11 and over invited to travel with the team.  All ten and under swimmers are encouraged to attend, but the parents must chaperone their child at all times. The first 25-28 swimmers who return their deposit of $125 will be admitted. Preference will be given to swimmers in age and ability. However, the team will work to arrange for everyone wishing to attend.  The team will be using a full size passenger bus for all of the transportation needs. We have contracted with Holliday Bus Company. I have personally used this company before for swim team travel meets, and they are amazing. Their buses are new, clean, safe and have all the storage you need. The bus does have a restroom and can hold up to 50 passengers. The swimmers will be transported from all events on the team bus. Swimmers will be expected to travel at all times with the team, unless being escorted by a parent.

When: Depart June 21st at 8 am and return late June 23 (Saturday) evening. The team registration and payment deadline to attend is Friday, May 18th

Where: The Summer Games are held in Cedar City, Utah. The swimming sessions are in the JL Sorensen Physical Education Building. (See itinerary for address). The team will be staying in a large private residence, with 5 bedrooms, and can sleep up to 30 people. We are excited to stay at a large residence where we can meet together for activities and meals. Please copy and paste the following address to check out the residence. We also have reserved three extra rooms at the Clarion Inn, if needed. The bus driver will be staying at the Clarion Inn.

What? Check out the included itinerary below for all the stops. Also check out the attached meet information put out by the host.

How much? The cost is $125, plus incidentals, and registration fees. The $125 includes lodging, transportation, snacks, and most meals. The $125 does not include a sack lunch for the ride down, and stopping for dinner on the way home. Incidentals can include: extra money to tip the bus driver ($5  per person), extra money for rides at Brian Head (probably won’t have time), and snacks. The registration must be completed with the Utah Summer Games website. The entry cost includes a $25 registration fee, plus $4.50 per event.

Why go? Why not? You way win a medal! Have a great time with your team!
