Pre-season Basics

Pre-season will be starting after Memorial Day, when Franklin Park Pool officially opens.  Pre-season practices provide all swimmers the opportunity to review their swim knowledge with the coaches.  They are held in the evenings during the week while the pool is open to the public.  We have three lanes reserved for our practices, and each age group will practice one night per week until school ends.  **Coach Michele will be posting this practice schedule on our website under Practice & Meets/Practice Schedule and they are conducted from 7-8pm.

Since our home pool is a county pool, please be aware that we are bound by the county’s policies and regulations.  During our pre-season evening practices, the pool staff will require that anyone who is not an official team swimmer and enters the pool to be charged admittance.  Upon arrival at the pool, families of younger (or new) swimmers are generally allowed to accompany their swimmer to meet the coaches.  Once you drop your swimmer off with a coach, you may:  1) leave and return at pickup time, 2) watch from the stands outside the fence (sand volleyball court), or 3) pay the fee.  If you stay in the pool, please enjoy the facilities or watch from the grassy area with the large pavilion.   We are sorry for the inconvenience this may pose for your family, but we ask that your respect this policy.

**In preparation for the meets ahead, here are some helpful hints for new swimmers and parents!

Swim Meet 101

1. Check with your coach to find out what time to be there for meet warm up.  Plan to arrive 30 minutes before your swimmer’s warm up to allow for set up, checking in, etc.

2. When you arrive, look for the Franklin Park team area.  We encourage age groups to sit together.

3. Things to bring: Suit, Goggles, Cap, Towels (two are recommended), Drinks/Food/Snacks, Cash for snack bar, Sunscreen, Easy-Up Sun Shade, Downtime activity (book, crossword, cards)

4. Check IN for the meet PRIOR to warm up.  THIS MUST BE DONE BY THE SWIMMER TO THE ROUNDER.  Parent volunteers must also check in to the Volunteers Co-Chairs prior to warm up.

5. Meet Sheet – Before the meet begins, take note of your swimmer’s event, heat & lane assignments; it is very helpful to write these with a permanent marker on your swimmer’s arm to help them remember (event/heat/lane).

6. Warm up with your teammates under the supervision of a Coach.

7. Check in with your coach BEFORE and AFTER each race (SWIMMERS – NOT PARENTS).

8. It is the SWIMMER’S responsibility to get themselves to the “blocks” prior to their race and their heat.  It is a good rule of thumb to listen for the announcer to announce the event number. PARENTS – The

Swim Gear and Spirit Wear

For practice you will need a suit appropriate for swim practices, goggles and a couple of dry towels.  DO NOT bring swim caps to the pool.  ONLY the issued Stingray caps are allowed during Stingray events.  During pre-season, we will provide caps to use during your practice if needed.  Dry towels are very important as it can get quite cool in the evenings.  It is also highly recommended that every swimmer have their own set of fins.

Your registration includes a team t-shirt AND a silicone Stingray cap. (Please be aware that we are a SILICONE ONLY team, as we have team members with latex sensitivity and severe allergy.)  These items will be delivered to swimmers before our first swim meet on June 17th.  Your Stingray swim suit is NOT required for practices, but please be sure to wear it at all swim meets.

**Sportfair will back on June 5th from 6:00-8:00pm at Franklin Park pool to size and sell our new swimsuit along with other gear such as goggles, fins and boards.  (Team members are also selling, swapping and donating suits and gear on our Facebook page.)

Spirit wear is in the process of being finalized.  We will provide ordering information in the coming weeks.  There will be numerous Stingrays items to choose from, so stay tuned.
