Dear HCY Swimmers & Families,

I hope you all had an awesome weekend and that you are having a great start to your week! We had a fun “Cinco De Fly-O” practice on Saturday, and the kids continued to be in great spirits through Sunday’s practice.

There is A LOT of important info in this scoop- so please read carefully!

Due to the NJ State Parks Lifeguard Certification Class- PRACTICE THIS SATURDAY- 5/12- WILL BE ADJUSTED AS FOLLOWS:

Senior 2: 6:00-8:00am @ RVCC

Senior 1(Track 1): 6:00-7:30am @ RVCC

Junior 3: 7:00-8:00am @ RVCC

Junior 1/2 (Track 1): 6:00-7:00pm@ Deer Path Y

              - We have made special accommodations for this practice considering the kids will be out of the pool the next day. The aquatics director was very flexible with giving us pool space, so please be considerate in attendance.

THERE WILL BE NO PRACTICE ON SUNDAY 5/13

As a reminder: All swimmers participating in Dryland MUST wear sneakers and bring a water bottle. Very little productive exercise can be done in flip-flops, and with the weather heating up- it is very important for the kids to stay hydrated!

Our Team Picnic is set for Friday 5/18 @ 6:00pm at the Deer Path Y. We are going to sit out outside in the field together and have a little relax and play time! Well-deserved I think!

PLEASE REMEMBER: This is a Bring Your Own picnic. We have done this in the past—and it has been a really fun gathering of families and dinners. Sharing a space together to just hang out is such a great time, and something we always look forward to.

Summer Season Information

I have attached our Summer Season schedule for you all to review. We will be sending out the updated Handbook and finalized Meet Schedule as soon as all of the information has been solidified.

Please commit to the Summer Season by 6/1.

Please note: The summer meets are very competitive for entries, so please commit in a timely fashion when any meets are posted.

I am so happy to announce that we are going to have both Maddie Hynoski and Carmen Kuo on staff with us this summer! They are both excellent coaches, and we are so grateful to have them back with us!

Maddie will be taking on a large role with the Little Stingrays group, while Carmen assists groups throughout the week as needed. Both will play vital roles in propelling this amazing team forward. They each share a love for HCY that we admire- and will be great influences on the kids during their time with us.

With new seasons, comes changes and new beginnings. One of our own- has outgrown her wings, and it’s time for her to take on a new chapter in life.

Coach Nicole will be leaving the flock here at HCY at the end of the Spring Season. She is moving to Maryland, and unfortunately cannot take all of us with her! Below is a letter from her to all of you. There is plenty of time between now and then for children and parents to ask questions and have conversations. Nicole is such a strong woman, we know she will do great things!

Nicole will be working with Coach Jenn over the next few weeks to help her transition into a leadership role for the Junior 2 group.

Dear HCY Families,

It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing my departure from the HCY Stingrays at the end of June.  After many months of discussion with my family, I have decided to move to Maryland and continue my teaching career there.

As many of you know, I grew up swimming at HCY.  I went through swim lessons, joined Little Stingrays, and swam with the team throughout high school.  This swim team has been a huge part of my life, and it has been a pleasure to be a coach for the team I love so much.  I have enjoyed working with all of your children and getting to share my love of swimming with them since I started coaching back in 2015.  HCY had a few rough years while I was away at college, but we have been growing back into the strong team I knew as a kid thanks to all of the dedication and hard work that you, the families, put into this team. Thank you for putting your trust in us and sticking with us through it all!

In the next few weeks, I will be working closely with Coach Jenn and Coach Ruby to ensure a smooth transition for the Junior 1 and Junior 2 groups.  Jenn has previously been a Junior group lead coach at HCY, and I know the swimmers will continue to learn and be successful under her guidance.

Though I will be a few states away, my family will still be living in New Jersey, so I promise to try to stop in and visit whenever I am back in the area!  If any of the kids would like to reach out, Coach Ruby will have my new address and can pass it on to anyone wanting to send me mail to my new place.

Please know that HCY will always hold a special place in my heart and I wish all of the swimmers the best of luck with their swimming careers!

Fondly,
Coach Nicole

We wish Nicole the best of luck and will miss her tremendously! She is such a great coach, and we have been so lucky to have her!

Tryouts for HCY Summer Swim Team

HCY Swim Team Tryouts are coming up soon! They are going to be held Wednesday 6/6 and Thursday 6/7 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm at the Deer Path Y. Please spread the word! We have had some amazing new teammates join us in this last year- and I’m sure there are more out there to meet! If you know of friends or family that are interested in swim team, please let them know about tryouts! I am always more than happy to answer questions about the team via email or desk phone if anyone needs clarification or has specific questions they need answers before trying out.

Online registration will be available via the HCYMCA--- website hcymca.com.

Metro (our suit and gear vendor) will be coming to the Y the week of 6/11-6/15 for a summer fitting for all of our new swimmers to get a team suit, or for any current swimmers who need a new team suit.

I know this was a lot of information…so thank you for holding strong until the end! As I mentioned above, I will be distributing information regarding our summer meets, and our updated handbook as soon as possible.

Summer registration will be open 6/1. The only action items for our current team members who are swimming the Summer Season are:
