News and Notes

We are in the middle of another big week for FCYST as we prepare for our first swim meet of the Long Course Season.  We are sending 18 swimmers to Pleasant Prairie to compete in the Bring On the Heat Summer Meet.  It has been almost a year since most of these swimmers competed in a 50 meter pool and we are looking forward to seeing all the progress they have made in a year.  Best of luck to FCYST this weekend!  With competitions starting and school winding down, our lives get rather busy!  Please continue to read through these weekly updates so important deadlines and events are not missed.

We would like to wish all our fabulous Swim Moms a very Happy Mother’s Day this weekend!  We hope you all are spoiled rotten with lots of love!

No Practice Dates:  Please mark these No Practice Days on your calendar for the month of May.

  • Saturday, May 12 (Bring on the Heat Summer Meet)
  • Saturday, May 19 (Distance/Sprint Meet)
  • Monday, May 28 (Memorial Day)

Steering Committee Meeting, May 10:  The next Steering Committee Meeting will take place tonight, Thursday, May 10 at 6:15 PM in the Plexus Room at the Appleton Y.  The Steering Committee is made up of elected Officers, a YMCA Representative, the Head Coaches, and at large members.  The Steering Committee assists and reviews the administrative functions of the team.  The Committee meets approximately once per month.  Meetings are open to all swim team families.  For future reference, parents wishing to have an item addressed by the Steering Committee need to request the President to place it on the agenda prior to the meeting.  Our Committee President is Brian Flanagan.  More information and a list of our Steering Committee Members can be found on our team website under the Parents tab.

Pirate Plunge Swim Meet:  The deadline to commit your swimmer to this fun meet in Brown Deer is May 15.  Please write in the Notes section if your swimmer is only able to attend certain days or any pertinent information you would like the coaches to be aware of.  Please note that all events are reviewed by the coaches and that coaches will make changes in the events chosen from time to time.  Relays are always decided on by the coaches.

GBY Friday Night 50s Swim Meet:  This is a really fun swim meet that takes place all in one session on a Friday night close to home.  This is a great first meet for our newer swimmer as well as a great meet for all returning swimmers!  The deadline to commit to this meet is May 28th.

How to Register For Swim Meets:  A list of all the swim meets FCYST will be participating in this summer is posted on our website on our home page and also as a drop down under the Meets & Events Tab.  To register your swimmer to a swim meet, click on the Edit Commitment tab for that event either on the home screen or from the list from the Meets & Events tab.  Scroll down and click on your swimmers name.  At that point you can declare if your swimmers is attending or not.  If nothing is selected, your swimmer will not be signed up for that meet.  If you do commit your swimmer to attend, a list of the possible event options will follow.  Please pay attention to the age groups listed and the days and sessions you are choosing events for.  Please only sign your swimmer up for their age group.  Open events are for swimmers 13 and over in most cases.  If you would like coaches to choose the events, do not click any events.  The Notes section is where you can put any important information you would like the coaches to be aware of, such as days or times your swimmer is not able to compete.   Coaches make final choices on all events and relays.  Please make sure you click “Save Changes” on the bottom right before exiting the event.  If you have questions, please reach out to one of the coaches.

Google Group:  FCYST has set up a Google Group to offer families an easy way to communicate with each other. If you would like to have access to this avenue for parent communication please copy and paste the URL listed below into your web browser. You will need to apply for the group as it is a private group for FCYST families only. Please leave your name and your kids names in the note section when you apply. We want to note that all official FCYST communication will still always come through the Swim Team Office, Team Unify or directly from a coach. This Google Group is entirely optional. It will help allow you an avenue to reach out to other parents for potential rides to practices or meets, get questions answered from our many knowledgeable families, and get information you might have missed. A special thanks to Mike Maddaloni for getting this group started!

Required Equipment:  We are requiring all FCYST swimmers to have their own pair of flippers this season.  The team does have flippers at the Appleton Y and Neenah Y, however, all our practice groups are practicing out of Lawrence and Erb this summer and we do not have any flippers at these locations.  We do need all our swimmers to have their own pair and bring them to practice every day.  We have all sizes of flippers available for swimmers to try on for sizing at the Buchanan Pool in Appleton.  FCYST has a Team Store through Elsmore Swim Shop that our team uses to buy the flippers that are located at the Appleton and Neenah Y.  You can purchase these flippers along with seeing everything else Elsmore has to offer, from team suits and bags to warm up jacket and T-shirts, by clicking on the Elsmore logo on the left side of our home screen on our website.  The team has a few brand new flippers that are size 7-9 in the office for sale for $19.  Please email Coach Elizabeth if you would like to purchase a pair.

Team T-Shirts: Any families wishing to purchase extra team T-Shirts should contact the swim office. This year's 2017-2018 Team T-Shirt that was first handed out in the fall is a royal blue short sleeve with the FCYST logo on the front and the following quote on the back: "The water is your friend. You don't have to fight with water, just share the same spirit as the water and it will help you move." --Alexaner Popov
