Quote for the week:

Hello TorpedoesNation,

Pike Spring Invitational

Great job to our Torpedoes that participated last weekend at the Pike Spring Invitational.  As a team, we were second place, with 4 individuals earning top point honors: Claire Parsons, 13-14 girls; Demme Hancewicz, 11-12 girls; Connor Lauritzen, 11-12 boys; and Ty Lauritzen, 10&under boys.

By the numbers, we had 47 athletes compete in 315 events, and came out with 89% best times.  We will be seeing a number of tattoos at the pool this week.  About 60% of the athletes from the weekend qualified for our end of season championships (divisionals or state).

Practice Change for Wednesday and next Tuesday

On Wednesday, May 16th, all practices will start at 6:30, due to a pool party at the VCSCAC.  Practices will last the normal duration, but simply start later than usual.  This will occur, again, on Tuesday, May 22nd (not Monday as previously stated).  Online calendars have been updated to reflect these changes.

PCST Paddle in the Park

This meet is a great outdoor meet, in nearby Greencastle.  It is in a public park, with a lot of strong local competition.  Everyone swims during the same session, all in the morning on Saturday and Sunday.  I would love a large contingent of older swimmers doing fewer events than  normal, but trying  some difficult events.  We have a great time at this meet, and it is the closest meet we will ever go to, that is not in Terre Haute.

Job Signups

Later this week, we open our signups for working at the Summer Steam swim meet, that we are hosting.  ALL Families are required to work, whether your swimmer participates in the meet or not.  Hosting meets is a major method of raising money for the team, and helps keep our dues as low as possible.  We need workers to host the meet.  Watch our “for hire” list, if you are unable to work yourself.

State Open Water Championships

While many changes have occurred, the State open water championships are going to happen.  Wednesday June 27th, in Hueston Woods State Park, College Corner, OH.   (Yes, the state championship is out of state, but only about 10 miles).  The meet has time standards, but they are about equivalent to divisionals standards in distance events.  If you are interested, talk to your coach.

ISU Swim Camps

We have had over 15 people express an interest in the ISU camps.  Parents watch your email, as we should have the codes by the end of the week.
