“Never be Satisfied,” and continue to learn and observe – that is Coach Tom Himes’ motto. It means look at every tomorrow as a chance to be better than today. That is how Coach Tom approaches everything and it is what he hopes to impress upon his swimmers.
He recently sat down with Swimming World Magazine to talk about everything from how he became a coach, the benefit of swimmers taking control of their destiny, how parents and their role have changed over the years, to coaching Michael Phelps as an age group swimmer and the “bets” he used to have to make with him.
In addition, Coach Himes gave a candid interview about former NBAC Olympic Gold Medalist Beth Botsford. He talks about how he helped shape her into the swimmer she became, crediting her with never giving up, being fearless, and setting lofty goals from very early on.
