Season End Fun Meet

Last Saturday, June 9, the Delta Sungod Swim Club organized its last fun meet o the season. As a staff and as a club, we were very proud to host just over 80 swimmers, the highest attendance we’ve ad in many years.

For this occasion, we also wanted to do something special: it was the first time we operated the electronic timing for this event. We wanted to offer our youngest members the opportunity to see their name and performance on the electronic board – setting that is often seen in high-level swim-meets. And as with all first times, come also some trials and errors. We had some electronic starting issues at first, then things went really well, and finally, we had to rely on the manual timing. We apologize for some of the of the results that may have been missed, especially around the start of the meet.

Nevertheless, it did not affect the quality of performance of some of our swimmers. Daniel Wang (11), Ben Sheppard-Reid (15) and Evans Noelle (9) all swam for the first time the 200 IM under the Lower Mainland Region’s standard of 4:00.00. This will allow them to participate in official swim meets at the regional level. Congratulations! Also, all our athletes swam more events than any previous fun meet we organized, and displayed some excellent progress. Please find attached the meet results.

Our racing events were followed by a breakfast kindly organized by our volunteer parents. Families were able to all relax and enjoy the food, w sharing the experiences and talks about the past season.

We would like to extend again our appreciation and gratitude to all coaches and volunteers who allow the club to organize to such pleasant social events. Among them: Owen Sorroke and Wojciech Apanowicz for the organization of the electronic timing and gathering timers, Neena Sunner for the coordination and the set-up of the breakfast.

Coming up for DSSC : Our qualified regional squad is attending the LMR Championships in Langley June 16-17. BC’s Tier 1 Summer Provincial Championships will then take place in Kelowna, June 22-24.
