Sr. Premier & Sr. Elite Saturday Practice Schedule

SEVA Families,

The summer is almost here. One more week until public school finishes. Attached is the summer practice schedule which will start next Monday, June 18th. Please note the following:

Swimmers in the Bronze and Silver Groups have practice two evenings (Tuesdays and Fridays) at Hampton YMCA and one evening (Wednesdays) at Midtown. Note the practice time for Bronze and Silver will be at the same time on Fridays. It is so much easier to teach/instruct swimmers in the basics of swimming skills in a short course pool. The single long course practice each week will allow them to improve strength in their swimming technique and gain experience in this course. They get the best of both situations. If your swimmer is participating on a summer league team, please have them attend those practices on Mondays and Thursdays.

Swimmers in the Gold, Age Group, Age Group Elite and Senior Prep Groups should target the evening practices at Midtown (Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays) as their priority practice to attend those day. On these three days, the Midtown pool will be set up for long course practice. If not able to attend the evening practices, please attend the morning practices on the same days (Tuesdays & Wednesdays, No AM practice on Fridays) at the Northampton Pool. The vast majority of local summer league meets for SEVA swimmers that have joined their neighborhood teams are on Mondays and Thursdays. On these days, evening practices will not be offered. Please attend the scheduled morning practices at Northampton. While the coaches would like to have your swimmer at all of the long course practices, having them attend a morning practice is better than not having them at practice at all on that day.

While a practice at your summer league pool may be more convenient, most summer coaches do not have the experience and knowledge of technique instruction and the training that is needed by swimmers of different ages and levels. Most of the time, a summer league coach gives a practice like the one they did when they were swimming without knowledge of the different types of physical training and how to establish a plan to execute it. Even if your summer league team has a coach with some experience, they need to concentrate on the beginning or summer only swimmer which is the only time they receive any instruction. The result is most club swimmers are put in lanes just going up and down the pool without a training plan and supervision or the practice is to easy so if they attend to many of these they will loose conditioning. This is why it is so important to keep your swimmer attending as many SEVA practices as possible. Let the summer league coach give a lot of attention to the summer only swimmer. Let your swimmer have the consistency of instruction and training they have received all year long with SEVA. A large majority of swimmers that have this consistency interrupted swim the fastest at the beginning of the summer leagues season and slower at the ending championship meets when they really would like to be GREAT. We STRONGLY discourage your swimmer attending both a summer league practice and a SEVA practice in the same day unless the summer league team has a play day. Most swimmers that go to both practices each day are worn out by the time championship meet take place for both SEVA and summer league and do not do well.

Parents Help at Practices at Northampton Pool: After each AM practice at Northampton Pool, we will need to roll up the lane lines and put the backstroke flags away. We would appreciate help from any parents that are picking up your swimmers after practice. We also need help by making sure parents are there to pick swimmers up on time. THANK YOU!!

The last day of the attached practice schedule is Wednesday, July 25th.

Starting on Monday, July 24th, we will be having practices for our swimmers who would like extra instruction on starts, turns, finishes and sprint related technique and race strategies that are needed for success at their Summer League Championship Meets. These practices will also allow our swimmers to “Bring A Friend” to the practice. This is a great opportunity for swimmers interested in joining SEVA for the 2018 – 2019 season to try a practice and if they would like get evaluated for group placement. These practices will take place at the Midtown Pool from 8:45 am to 10:00 am, Monday through Thursday July 30th through August 2nd.

Swimmers who qualify for the Eastern Zone Meet will have practices in the morning only at Midtown on Monday, July 30th thru Monday, August 6th. These swimmers depart for the Zone meet on Tuesday, August 7th.
