Week 1A 2018 - Somerset falls to CCRA

In the first A meet of the 2018 season—and our first meet as a newly promoted team in the much more competitive Division “I”—the Somerset Dolphins swam hard and had great fun. Despite the final 347-444 score in favor of CCRA, the Dolphins swimmers enjoyed many victories, including the smashing of a 24-year-old team record.

The Dolphins enjoyed more first-place wins than their competitors—with a total of 24 individual races in which Dolphins touched the wall first. Dolphin swimmers who touched first in all their individual races include: Francis Astill (9-10 free, 9-10 breast, 9-10 fly); Joey Panner (12 & Under IM, 11-12 free, 11-12 back, 11-12 fly); and Delia Vanderzon (13-14 IM, 13-14 free, 13-14 back, 13-14 fly). Other Dolphins with multiple first-place wins include Samantha Smith with three wins (15-18 IM, 15-18 free, & 15-18 back) and Dylan Reilly (8-under free & 8-under breast), David Panner (13-14 free & 13-14 back), and Miles Haraldsson (13-14 IM & 13-14 fly), who each touched the wall first twice. Other first-place individual swimmers include Gage Bolten (9-10 back), Laila Bracciale (8 & under breast), Nata Freeman (11-12 breast), and Emmett Freeman (13-14 breast).

***Dylan Reilly’s win (at age 7) in the 8-and-under breast stroke broke a Somerset team record achieved by Adam Bookman two-and-a-half decades ago, back in 1994. Congratulations, Dylan!!***

The top-notch swims kept on coming, with seven Dolphin swimmers achieving All-Star times this morning. The all-star swimmers include Nata Freeman in 11-12 breast; Phoebe Lewis in 9-10 back & 9-10 breast; Avery Mascott in 9-10 back; and Joey Panner in 12 & under IM, 11-12 back, & 11-12 fly. Three swimmers achieved all-star times in each of their individual events: Dylan Reilly (8 & under free, back, & breast); Samantha Smith (15-18 free, IM, back, & fly) & Delia Vanderzon (13-14 free, IM, back, & fly).

Contributing to the great team effort today, 29 additional Dolphins (not already mentioned above) achieved personal bests, swimming their fastest recorded time ever in at least one event. These swimmers include Clara Bilbao, Elana Bilbao (2 PBs), Hayden Bitz (2 PBs), Zara Bracciale, Danny Brown (2 PBs), Clay Davis, Oskar Fortune (2 PBs), Phoebe Fortune (3 PBs), John Friedrich (4 PBs), Kesh Khanna, Peter Kumar (4 PBs), Evelyn Labson (2 PBs), Lewis Labson (3 PBs), Asher Lewis, Mac Owen (2 PBs), Ava Pilot (3 PBs), Oscar Pilot, Elias Roark, Catherine Smith, Emily Smith (2 PBs), Justin Smith, Nicole Vanderzon, Natalie Veksler (2 PBs), Anne Waltzman, Thomas Waltzman, Evan Williams, Jessie Williams, Sarah Williams, and Olivia Zaft.
