DSSC’s Athletes Partakes in One of the Fastest Youth Provincials Championships

This past weekend was the BC tier 1 Championships, held at the H2O center in Kelowna, BC. In the 3 days of racing, from June 22-24, 2018, Delta Sungod Swim Club’s squad comprising of Kayah Apanowicz (12), Chloe Meredith-Jensen (12), Kirra Trites (12) and Marcus Hugo Viloria (12) accomplished great races, and witnessed one of the fastest BC Provincial Championships for swimmers all aged under 13 years-old.

Madisen Jacques (12) from the Hyack Swim Club broke 3 national records, in front of the eyes of over 360 athletes and their families. She lowered her previous record in the 100m butterfly (1:02.57) , as well as stealing the 200 IM in 2:21.34  and the 200 butterfly ones in 2:21.56.

DSSC’s athletes have had some very surprising performances as well, with each one of them being at least once a heat-winner throughout the weekend. In the first event of the first session, on Friday morning, Meredith-Jensen lowered her 200 FR mark by over 7 seconds, leading the race with ease from start to finish. Right after, Trites did the same, touching the wall first in a time of 2:28.06. Apanowicz controlled and won her heat in the 100 BR, finishing 10th in the province. She repeated her success in the 100 FR, lowering her time by close to 5 seconds. On the last session of the weekend, Viloria overcame tiredness to knock almost 8 seconds off his best time in the 200m backstroke, winning his heat and earning his first 15 & under BC Tier 2 standard.

“DSSC swimmers displayed great racing skills and performances in a very fast-paced competition. Most of them bettered their rank in their respective events and offered us some excitement. I’m very happy with the way the preparation went in the last weeks preceding these championships, which lead the athletes to be in a very good shape. I am proud of the attitude the group displayed throughout the season and its performance. I am confident in its future, and the one of the swim club. “ shares Coach Maxime.
