FAST Tigers Defend Their Open Water State Championship for the 5th Year in a Row

On Wednesday, June 27th, FAST athletes traveled to Acton Lake Beach, part of the Heuston Woods State Park in College Corner, Ohio, for the Open Water Championship. The Indiana State Championship was combined with State Championship races from 6 other LSC’s. Contested with 562 other swimmers representing 80 USA Swimming Clubs in 6 LSC’s, our FAST athletes shined – and brought home the Open Water Indiana State Championship for the 5th consecutive year. 

In the Boys 15 & Over 4K race, all of the FAST athletes earned Top 10 finishes. Jackson Carlile won the race with Aaron Frollo (2nd) and Cory Jacocks (3rd) close behind. Finishing in 6th through 9th places respectively were FAST’s Nick Harris, Simon Davies, Izzy Harding, and Sean Deimling.

In the Girls 15 & Over 4K race, the top FAST finisher was Corinne Yorkman (3rd). Finishing in the 6th through 8th places respectively were Morgan Booth, Savannah Kennedy, and Abigail Jahns. Earning Top 20 finishes were Emma Julien (13th), Carissa Schneider (17th), Kara Robeson (18th), and Hannah Pratt (19th). Also competing for FAST were Kristen Mouser (27th) and Nicole Rueff (28th).

The 13-14 age group competing on the 3K course. Earning top honors for the Boys were Kyle Ponsler (1st), Tyler Schwertfeger (2nd), and Connor Carlile (3rd). All 13-14 boys finished in the Top 20 with Reed Beaumont finishing 5th, James Stasey finishing 10th, and Thomas Miller finishing 18th.

On the girls’ side in the 13-14 age group, Lydia Reade was the top FAST athlete with a 4th place finish. Kate Mouser and Jessica Patrick were right behind with 5th and 6th place finishes, respectively. Finishing in the Top 25 were also Abby Miller (13th), Ashley Wyatt (20th), and Callie Shine (24th).

FAST was also represented in the younger age groups. For the 11-12 year-old 2K distance, AJ Adams finished 16th in the boys’ race, while Emma Schumacher was the 11thplace finisher in the girls’ race. In the 10 & Under 1K distance, Austin Carlile finished 6th for the boys, while Addison Carlile finished 2nd with Emma Schwertfeger coming in 3rd.

As a team, FAST athletes earned 555 points. The Top 5 teams overall for all 6 LSC’s were: Northern KY Clippers (623 points), Fishers Area Swimming Tigers (555 points), Lakeside Swim Team (452 points), Mason Manta Rays (317 points), and the Dayton Raiders Swim Club (298 points). For the Indiana State Championship, the Top 5 teams were: Fishers Area Swimming Tigers (555 points), Irish Aquatics (297 points), Valparaiso Swim Club (212 points), Brownsburg Swim Club (184 points), and the Riviera Club (87 points). THANK YOU to all those who worked behind the scenes and on the water to provide a great and safe event for these swimmers.

It was a great day for FAST! Our athletes got outside their comfort zones, traveled well, and raced even better. Congratulations to all who competed to bring home our 5th consecutive Open Water State Championship! We are proud of you all!
