Marlins! It is with excitement that we announce 2 of our
swimmers (Jack Gillespie and Michael
Wyant) have been selected onto the Sierra Nevada Swimming
board of directors for the 2020 swim calendar. This is a huge
honor, and a very big deal to have 2 athletes from the same
club selected to represent all athletes for the LSC.
See news release below from Sierra Nevada Swimming!
Sierra Nevada Swimming is pleased to announce
the four athletes who have been elected to serve on the Sierra
Nevada Board of Directors for the 2018-2020 swim
Gillespie - Sierra Marlins Swim Team - Board
Kyle Lehr -
AquaSol - Board Representative
Emma Peters - DART
Swimming @ Sacramento - JR Athlete Representative
Michael Wyant - Sierra
Marlins Swim Team - SR Athlete Representative
The athletes were
elected by the Athlete’s Committee on Tuesday night at the
annual House of Delegates Meeting. Organizational Bylaws were
amended at the meeting that allowed the athletes to select from
their own peers for the first time in the thirty year history of
the LSC (Local Swim Committee). Sierra Nevada Swimming is one
of 59 LSC’s that govern the local swimming competition for
USA Swimming. It also provides resources to coaches,
officials, parents and volunteers within the organization.
These athlete representatives will attend monthly board
meetings, workshops and an aquatics convention to better learn how
they can help improve the sport of swimming.
According to the
Ted Stevens Olympic and Amateur Sports Act and USA Swimming Policy,
athletes must hold 20% of the membership and voting power on any
governing body or board. This important Act offers a
tremendous opportunity for USA Swimming athletes - the ability to
directly influence the decisions that affect swimming in countless
ways, both voice and vote.
Jack, Kyle, Emma and Michael - we look forward to having you the
Board of Directors.
