Ontario Provincials - Day 1 Recap

Day 1 of the 2018 Ontario Provincial Championships brought tons of excitement early on with Hanna Rissanen qualifying for her first Canadian Junior Championships in the Women 200 Br with a time of 2:47.72. She then went on to qualify for the 14 year old female 200 Br and secure 6th overall.

More 200 Br highlights came from Abby Howell and Ella Rennie taking silver and bronze respectively in the 16 year old category. It was a close race with Ella and Abby battling it out right to the last stroke with Abby getting her hands on the wall just before Ella.

Sprint 50 Fr had fireworks from Arianna Miller who squeaked her way into the 14 year old finals. She took hold of the opportunity to swim a life time best and top 6th finish place overall. Alex Lojko joined Miller in the 50 Fr finals swimming a top 5 finish and seasonal best of 23.80.

Distance 800 free came next with Jordyn Hunter swimming a lifetime best and narrowly taking her first Jr Nat cut. She managed a 4th overall in the 15 year old category and will look for redemption in her 200 Fr tomorrow.

Last race of the day came from the 200 medley 15 and over women relay who were slated to edge out third spot for a chance at the podium and club record. Emma Okumura, Abby Howell, Cailyn Eley and Elise Legault-Warren all swam close to their best times with Emma and Abby setting personal best. The women ended up securing 6th overall with a valiant effort to cap off the night.

The team will now rest and get ready for tomorrow with more chances for finals and podiums!
