Week 3A 2018 - A Scorching Victory for the Dolphins!!!

The competitive juices were flowing this hot and humid morning at Somerset’s third A Meet of the 2018 season against the North Chevy Chase Sharx.  The Dolphins swam hard and came out on top by a definitive margin with a final score of 421 to 371.  The Somerset Swimmers of the Meet were Kate Chlopak and Hayden Bitz.  


In anticipation of the holiday week, dressed in red, white and blue, many swimmers had strong swims, great placing and personal bests. Ten Dolphins had All-Star times, including Leo Bracciale (Boys 8&Uback), Kate Chlopak (Girls 15-18 breast), Nata Freeman (Girls 11-12 breast), Phoebe Lewis in three events (Girls 9-10 free, back and breast), Everett Mascott in three events (Boys 8&U free, breast and fly), Joey Panner in two events(Girls 12&U IM and Girls 11-12 fly), Dylan Reilly in three of his swims (Boys 8&U free back and breast), Samantha Smith in all of her individual events (Girls 15-18 free, back, fly and IM), Delia Vanderzon in three events (Girls 13-14 free, back, and fly) and Nicole Vanderzon with her All-Star time in the Girls 15-18 fly.


Samantha Smith broke the Somerset team record in the Girls 15-18, 50 butterfly with a time of 31:00. Congratulations on a great swim, Samantha!


Four Dolphins touched the wall first in all of her races today: Isabel Finn (Girls 8&U free, back, and as a member of the graduated relay), Joey Panner (Girls 11-12, free, back, fly, IM and as a member of the graduated relay), Phoebe Lewis (Girls 9-10, free, back and breast and as a member of the graduated relay) and Samantha Smith (Girls 15-18, free, back fly, IM and as a member of the medley relay).


Several of our youngest swimmers outdid themselves by scoring big points for the team, including Tommy Astill (age 7, Boys 8&U, 3 pts), Joey Edick (age 7, Girls 8&U, 8 points), Jade Haraldsson (age 6, Girls 8&U, 1 pt), Mac Owen (age 7, Boys 8&U, 4 points)Dylan Reilly (age 7, Boys 8&U, 14.5 points)and Junie Zaft (age 7, Girls 8&U, 2 points).  Our 8-year-olds did us proud with Leo Bracciale bringing in 11 points, Isabel Finn with 14 points, and EveretMascott racking up 11.5 points.


All that time in the pool is paying off with 40 swimmers achieving their best times yet this year.  Hayden Bitz (Boys 15-18), Kate Chlopak (Girls 15-18) and Miles Haraldsson (Boys 13-14) swam their seasonal bests in all of their individual events.  Contributing to the great team effort today, 27 additional Dolphins (not already mentioned above) swam their fastest time this year in at least one event. These swimmers include Francis Astill (2 events), Clara Bilbao (1 event)Elana Bilbao (1 event)Gage Bolton (2 event), Danny Brown (3 PB), Alexandra Finn (2 PB), Emmett Freeman (1 PB), Jonas Hawkins (2 PB)Sedona Hawkins (1 PB), Jessica Khanna (3 PB), Kesh Khanna (2 PB), Peter Kumar (1 PB), Lewis Labson (1 PB), Naomi Lamel (1 event), Andres Lopez Forestier (2 events)Lucas Lopez Forestier (1 event), Matias Lopez Forestier (2 events), Avery Mascott (2 events), David Panner (1 event), Clara Reilly (1 event)Emily Smith (2 events), Justin Smith (1 event)Tommy Turi (2 events), Annie Walker (1 event), Anne-Stuart Waltzman (3 events), Jessie Williams (2 events), and Olivia Zaft (2 events).  Congratulations to all of the Dolphin swimmers on a wonderful morning!
