July/August Championship Meet Planning

 

SEVA Families,

 

All of the Long Course mid-season meets are now complete. It's time to get ready for the Championship Meets!!!! We look forward to seeing our swimmers finish the season with successful competitions at all of the levels below.

 

July 13– 15“Summer Awards” at Midtown. ALL SWIMMERS can compete in this meet in events that they have a “C”, “B” and “BB” time. Some swimmers can compete in events that they have an “A” time as long they have not met the YARD or METER qualifying time for Age Group Champs (14 & Under) and Senior Champs (13 & Older). The events for this meet are spread evenly over three days. All three days, the 12 & Younger swimmers compete in the morning sessions (6:45 am On Deck Time) and the 13 & Older swimmers in the afternoon sessions (On Deck Time projected to be 11:15 am). Swimmers can compete in up to 3 events per day and 9 events for the meet. The meet is Time Finals meaning they swim the events one time.

July 19 – 22 “Virginia Senior Championships” at Liberty University Natatorium, Lynchburg, Virginia This meet is for 13 & older swimmers who have achieved the qualifying time, EITHER YARDS OR METERS, in each event. Most 13 & 14 swimmers will compete in the Age Group Champ meet. This meet is primarily for 15 & Older swimmers. If a swimmer has qualified for 5 events or less, they are allowed to add one bonus event, 200 meters or less, as long as they have the bonus qualifying time. Also if a swimmer has the qualifying time in EITHER the 800 or 1500 Free, they are allowed to compete in both events. Swimmers can enter any number of events but are allowed to compete in a maximum of 6 events including the bonus swim. Time Trials are an option after the conclusion of the preliminary session on Friday and Saturday and at the end of the finals session on Sunday (Time Permitting). A maximum of 2 time trials can be swim during the meet. This meet has Prelims and Finals on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Distance events on Thursday and Sunday and all relays are Time Finals

July 26– 29“Virginia Age Group Championships” at Christiansburg Aquatic Center. This meet is for 14 & younger swimmers who have achieved the qualifying time, EITHER YARDS OR METERS, in each event entered. All swimmers can compete in up to 3 events a day not including relays. All swimmers can compete in up to eight (8) individual events during the meet. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, ALL age groups will have preliminaries in the morning session.

 

Events that are Timed Finals:

  • Thursday Afternoon/Evening: 11 to 14 year old 1500 Free, 11 – 12 and 10 & Under 400 Free.

  • Friday 11 – 12 400 IM (top 8 swim seeded swimmers compete during finals. All other swimmers compete during the prelims.

  • Relays: Friday & Saturday – Top 8 seeded relays swim during the finals session, all others swim in the prelim session. Sunday: all relays compete during the prelim session.

  • Sunday: 11 – 14 year old 800 Free

 

Events that are Preliminary & Finals:

All individual events on Friday, Saturday and Sunday except the 11 – 12 400 IM & 11 – 14 800 Free

 

Projected “On Deck” Times Are The Following:

 

Thursday Events: 1:45 pm

Friday, Saturday & Sunday 11 to 13 Year Old Prelims: 6:15 am (subject to change)

Friday, Saturday & Sunday Finals: 3:45 pm (subject to change)

July 31 August 4“NCSA Summer Championships at IUPUI Natatorium, Indianapolis, Indiana. This long course meet is run by the same organization that sponsors the NCSA Junior National meet held in Orlando in March. The meet is held over a five day period. All days have prelims in the morning and finals in the evening. In addition to other events held as prelims and finals on day five, the 1500 Free is run as a Timed Final event. Swimmers must have qualified in at least one event to compete in individual events. Swimmers that have 1 qualifying time get three bonus events, 2 qualifying times get two bonus events, 3 qualifying times get one bonus event and 4 or more qualifying times receive no bonus events. If Bonus swims 200 meters or less, there are no Bonus event qualifying times. If the Bonus swims are 400 Free or 400 IM, the swimmer must have the published Bonus cut in each event. Relays are possible if we have the number of male/females and have achieved the meet qualifying time. Swimmers can compete in up to 2 time trials.

August 8– 11“ Eastern Zone Championships” at the Collegiate School Aquatic Center, Richmond, Va. 18 & Younger swimmers who finish the season ranked in the top 2 in their event and age group qualify for the team. Swimmers that make at least 4 qualifying times are also added to the team. PLEASE NOTE: a swimmer can move up to become top 2 in an event if someone faster declines to go on the trip. Swimmers can compete in a maximum of 6 events during the meet. 10 & Younger events are time finals. 11 – 18 year old events are Prelims & Finals except for the distance events and relays. Traveling with the Virginia Zone Team is mandatory. For more information, please see the www.virginiaswimming.com and click on “ Member Resources” then “Zone Team”.

Zone Registration Policy: Any swimmer who HAS or MAY qualify for the Zone Meet and would like to attend, MUST fill out and submit an application to Virginia Swimming by Monday, July 16th. A $100 deposit (refundable if the swimmer does not qualify for the meet) must be paid by the same date. A separate e-mail will be sent to families of “A” level and faster swimmers who the coaching staff has identified as being a candidate for the Virginia Zone Team.
