Eight points last summer was all that separated the Willowick Wildkats from winning their fourth straight Division I title. Chardon edged the Wildkats in their dual meet and went on to win the division crown.
The roles reversed this past weekend as Willowick won a back-and-forth meet against Chardon by 12 points and now has the inside track to it's fourth division title in five years.
No one had an upper hand the entire meet. The teams split the medley relays, Chardon went ahead after the 200s and Willowick came back during the IMs. It was back and forth the entire meet that was eventually tied going into the breaststroke.
The Wildkats won five of the eight races, with Elliot Suponcic, Drew Morbeto, Savannah Hirsh, Natali Trem and Simon Taraska all leading the way. But it was secondary points scored by Nathaniel Peters, Annie Biats and Sophia Trem that also helped put distance between them and the Sharks heading into the free relays.
The relays were all close as well with Willowick winning five of the eight - including an outstanding 13-15 boys race spearheaded by Larry McGarry, Danny Byrne, Simon Taraska and Danny Morgan.
In all, each team won four age groups.
Willowick was led by seven swimmers who won both of the individual events:
- Colton Cutwright - 8&U Boys - 25 Butterfly, 50 Freestyle
- Drew Morbeto - 9-10 Boys - 50 Backstroke, 50 Breaststroke
- Caleb Ortman - 9-10 Boys - 100 IM, 100 Freestyle
- Savannah Hirsch - 11-12 Girls - 100 IM, 50 Breaststroke
- Aiden Gron - 11-12 Boys - 200 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle
- Carson Petrecca - 11-12 Boys - 100 IM, 50 Backstroke
