Club News July 10th 2018

Tier II Victoria:

Congratulations to all the swimmers who competed at the Tier II Championships last weekend in Victoria. 

Highlights from Coach Tina:  

Day 1: 

Liam Wallich took 7s off his 100 brst moving from 36th to 12th in ranking and madeanother Far Western time. 
Marlee Caruso took off 9s and moved from 18th to 12th in the 400IM. 
Haley Berrisford took 3s off her 400IM, from 21st to 12th and Westerns. 
Ian Markus went best times in both his 400IM & 800 free. 
Justin Fotherby was on the podium for 200free and 400IM (gold).  
Ashley McMillan was on the podium for 200free and 400IM. 
Tyler Wall won gold for 200 Back. 
The 15&U relay was bronze with an awesome anchor leg of 28low from Austin Follestad

Day 2: 
Ashley McMillan made it to the podium for both her individual swims - bronze in 100 free 59.61 and gold in 200 brst 2:41.78. 
Justin Fotherby made it to the podium as well in the 200 brst 2:34.64 out touching his opponents in a very tight race. He also raced in the 100 free and 400 free where he came in fourth in extremely close races. 0.05s between 2nd and 4th in the 100. 
Tyler Wall was second in the 100 free with 52.73. 
Laurenz Weber was 4th in the 100 fly. 
Liam Wallich had a great 200 brst, Swimming a best time in finals, 2:37.71. 
Lindsay Spear had an impressive race in the 200 brst, winning her heat by 3s. She moved from 36 to 25 in the rankings. 
Evan Peters won his best in the 100 fly from lane 8. . . Outside smoke. . . Dropping more than 3s and moving from 53 to 28 in the rankings. 

Day 3:

KISU swimmers showed courage and guts in their swims today and took us to our goal of Top 5. Today had strong events for us so with some guts we were able to bring it up to 4th place for a few minutes but ended up 5th by 6.5points over 700points (this is like one swim placing 3rd in the B final . . . that's how close it was).
Lots of best times in 200 Fly - Alice WangMarlee Caruso(8s), Caitlyn Kowal(11s), Haley Berrisford.
50 Free placings were Tyler Wall 2nd, Laurenz Weber 2nd Ashley McMillan 7th, Ava Wall 13th(tie).
100 Back - Ashley McMillan 3rd, Marlee Caruso 4th,Evan Peters 3rd, Laurenz Weber 10th, Tyler Wall 1st.
200 IM - Ashley McMillan 1st, Mackenzie Wallich 7th, Justin Fotherby 2nd, Evan Peters 13th, Laurenz Weber 16th.
1500 Free - Justin Fotherby 3rd, Haley Berrisford 4th (with a massive best time of 24s and Westerns qualifying), Ian Markus 10th.
Huge swims from Jacob Brayshaw all weekend. He is our Okanagan Para swimmer who broke his personal bests with huge improvements.  
I'm super proud of all these people - how they turned this meet around, achieved our goal and totally proved themselves against the best in the province!  Well done KISU!

KISU Hoodies:

For those of you who ordered a hoodie before Christmas they are being replaced. Nicole will be at the pool next Thursday July 19thfrom 11- Noon ONLY with the new hoodies.  You must turn in your old hoodie in order to receive your new one. If you are unable to pick up next week, you can pick it up in September.

 

New Office Cabinets:

We are looking into installing new cabinets in the KISU office.  If you have a connection at Rona or Home Hardware and can help us out with this project, please contact Tina at coachtina@kisu.ca

 

September Two-Week Trial:  Sept 17th-28th

Do you have a friend a family member interested in joining swim club but they’re not quite sure?  The two-week trial is the perfect opportunity to get a good feel for our program without the financial commitment upfront. Email Amy at admin@kisu.ca to sign up.  Please include full name of  swimmer, age, contact info and any previous swim experience in your email.

 

2018/19 Swimmer Groups ***2nd EDITION***:

The REVISED list for next seasons swimmer groups is available HERE. This applies to JUNIORS swimmers and up. If your swimmers name is on the list and they will not be returning in the fall or if you have any questions regarding your swimmer placement, please email Coach Tina at coachtina@kisu.ca  

 

Summer Vacation:

With summer vacation right around the corner we can look forward to long days, sunny weather and a less scheduled routine. Although these are all amazing things about summer we would also like to remind your swimmers the importance of staying fit over the break.

2018/19 Season Registration:

Online registration for next season will open Aug 1stRegistration Renewal is not automatic.  You must complete online registration every season.Watch your email this summer for updates to club fees and the practice calendar, swimmer group lists and other important information.

 

KISU Academy International Students:

The KISU swim academy is gaining International acclaim. We are excited to have 4 students from Germany coming to SD67 to attend Pen High and join the KISU swim academy for the 2018/19 school yearWe hope that your swim family would consider hosting one of the following student athletes. 

Grade 11 boy from Germany – Full year
Grade 11 girl from Germany – Full year
Grade 9 girl from Germany - Semester 1 only (Sept. to Feb.) Grade 11 girl from Germany - Semester 1 only (Sept. to Feb.) 

Host families receive: 

Tax-free compensation of $800 per month Support from Homestay Coordinator (max 2 students) 

Respite for emergencies and holidays 

Host families provide: 

A private bedroom
3 meals and reasonable snacks per day
A caring family for guidance, friendship and support

Up Coming Events:

Rock Ridge 2018:  September 7th-9thRegistration Deadline: extended until July 15th

This is a GREAT way to start the season.  We have an early deadline as the sign up this year is first come, first serve . . . there will be an opportunity to sign up later . . . but you may not get in (the invitation has been extended to the Vernon and Salmon Arm swim clubs, so it will fill up).  Sign up now. Swimmers must be Sub $ for 200IM

Cost $225.  We will need a parent volunteer for every 10 swimmers that sign up (no cost).

Please find below more information, including a tentative schedule.

It would be great to have 30 KISU swimmers signed up (then we can send three coaches).
