Day 1 Recap
YNS came out to a speedy start on its first trip to Speedo Sectionals in Jenks, Oklahoma! The Sharks saw many best times, scoring swims, and team records broken on the first day!
At this meet, the top 32 swimmers in the morning make it back to finals, and the top 24 score points. Throughout the week we will be highlighting all finals swims, scoring swims, and team records.
Day 1 Highlights:
100 Freestyle:
Maggie Summit dropped 1.63 seconds in her 100 freestyle to finish in 3rd place with a 57.39! This time earned Maggie her third Summer Junior cut! Maggie also lowered her team record that she had previously set on 8/4/17.
200 Breast:
Liz Dokina competed in her first finals event at the national level and finished in 28th place while dropping 1.78 seconds from her prelims swim!
Amanda Wager dropped 3.74 seconds in her 200 breast to finish in 11th place with a 2:39.91! Amanda lowered her team record that she set on 8/1/17 by nearly four seconds!
200 Back:
Catherine Christuk competed in her first finals event at the national level and finished in 31st place in her 200 backstroke!
800 Freestyle:
Sofia Blomqvist scored points in her first race at the national level and finished 24th in the 800 freestyle with a 9:34.81!
Hannah Perkins dropped 14.01 seconds in her 800 freestyle to finish in 13th place with a 9:21.65! Hannah broke the 13-14 team record previously set on 7/11/08 by India Boland by nearly fifteen seconds!
200 Medley Relay:
Catherine Christuk, Amanda Wager, Victoria Ambrose, and Maggie Summit jumped 19 spots to finish in 10th place with a 2:02.52 in the 200 Medley relay! This relay broke the YNS record previously set on 8/3/15 by Sarah Welch, Sophia Lumino, Rachel Grant, and Maggie Summit.
