Mia Noel earned Coach for a Day honors for the Tigers 1 practice group and led both the dryland and water sessions for his teammates on Wednesday, July 11. The Tigers 1 athletes earn 1 token for each practice attended that is completed to the best of their abilities. Tiger 1 athletes can then redeem their tokens for various awards - such as a leading the nightly countdown, a dryland game, Dryland Leader, or Coach for a Day. To be Coach for a Day, Mia had to save and turn in 100 tokens! As she neared 100 tokens, Mia began talking with her teammates about what sets they’d like to see, as well as how much time to plan for each set and to structure the practice.
Mia took control of dryland right from the start, warming her teammates up with a 5-minute “Diego Crab” run. A short meditation session followed, with games and stretching as well. In the water, her teammates could not wait to see what was coming next, as Mia interspersed 25’s practicing a skill with 100’s of racing that same skill. Teammates worked on doggie paddle swimming (sculling and catching water), no leg swimming (focusing on core and catch), corkscrew swimming (focusing on core strength and balance). The day ended with a lively cannonball contest and a leap from the diving boards. The swimmers focused well in the water, had fun, and learned valuable skills (without realizing it!).
Congratulations to Mia for her dedication to practice, hard work in the pool, and leadership among her teammates. We are honored that you were our Coach of the Day!
