LCSC Coho Update 16 July 2018
Cohoes Finish Long Course Regular Season with a
Congratulations to our Summer Cohoes for a strong finish to the “regular” long-course season. This weekend begins the championship meets: 12 & U State Meet this weekend in Holland; 13 & Over State Meet next weekend at EMU.
Our swimmers attended two meets this past weekend with very positive results. A baker’s dozen swam at OLY in the “Grizzly Summer Sizzler.” Haley Dobbyn led the way, qualifying for states with a lifetime best on Friday night in the 400 IM. Congratulations to the following swimmers for establishing personal best times in a number of events at the Sizzler: Allie Allen, Amelia Brown, Jocelyn Dessin, Amelia Hubbard, Erin Wensorski, Neil Bhate, Cameron Newton-Lay, and Joseph Salvatera. A school of Cohoes swimming at the USSC Last Dance SCM at Stoney Creek HS also demonstrated the great potential of Coho Nation: new AA State qualifiers at this meet included Maddie Lauer, Ella Dziobak, Josey Coon, Hazel Thurston, Joe Lenard, and Haley Dobbyn; lifetime best swims were also posted by Aanchal Acharya, Kassandra Beaumont, Corinne Gillis, Mara Gillis, McKenna Lauer, Addie Meseroll, Audrey Tyler, CJ Cederlind, Brycen Coon, Miguel Hernandez, and Arnav Kulkarni.
The outstanding swims of the weekend belong to some of our novice Coho swimmers. Congratulations to Corrine Gillis swimming the 200 IM for the first time, and to CJ Cederlind and Arnav Kulkarni racing many events for their first time including the 50 fly, 50 breast, and 200 free. These young swimmers demonstrated great initiative by challenging themselves to race all strokes and many distances. This is how our team becomes better! Thank you to all our racing Cohoes this weekend.

LCSC Announces Coho Swim Camps, July 30-August
Immediately following the 2018 Summer Session, LCSC Coho coaches are offering two weeks of summer swim camp. Morning sessions will focus on stroke technique in all four strokes; afternoon sessions will focus on starts, turns, and finishes in all four racing strokes. These swim camps are open to swimmers of all ages. Swimmers do not have to be a member of LCSC or USA Swimming to participate in these camps. Tell your friends at your summer clubs that this is a great way to finish out the summer season! Information about the Coho Cummer Swim Camps is available on the team website. Please contact Coach Vince with any questions.
1. Concussion Awareness Forms must be on file for every LCSC swimmer. If you have not yet completed a form, please print it off and return it to LCSC coaching staff: https://www.michigan.gov/documents/mdch/Parentandathleteinfosheet_415328_7.pdf
We are contacting all families that do not have a form on file within the next week.
2. Arrive 15 minutes before practice session to complete shoulder stretches and shower before practice. Proper preventative shoulder stretching significantly reduces the risk of common shoulder injuries associated with competitive swimming. Arriving 15 minutes prior to practice start allows time to shower, stretch, and mentally prepare for the day’s aquatic challenge.
3. Improving body strength and stroke mechanics reduce risk of injury. Exercising with proper technique builds strength and endurance for life-long health and fitness. Coho coaches teach and reinforce the proper techniques for dry land and swim training. It is the responsibility of each individual swimmer to improve their technique when receiving instruction and corrective feedback.
Week of July 16: All practices to run as scheduled.
Week of July 23: All practices to run as scheduled. Saturday (7/28) concludes the summer session.
