***PARENTS NEEDED TO HELP TRANSPORT TEAM EZ-UPS TO UKIAH MEET***
Hey VJO Parents!  Our coaches need your help. We need a couple families help out with transporting our team Ez-ups (5 total) to the Ukiah Meet this weekend. It will be hot at the meet this weekend, so we need as much shade as we can get. Please contact Coach Jennifer (jenniferthiem@vallejoaquatics.org or 707-292-6473) if you are able to help out. SHARK PRIDE DAY
Thursday, July 26th (All Groups, 5-7pm)
Next Thursday, July 26th is Shark Pride Day. On this day all groups will be swimming together from 5:00-7:00pm.  We want to encourage team unity by having the entire swim team practice together. Everyone will be warming up together working on skills together and playing games together.  We will do fun games and relays at the end. Show off your Shark spirit!  Wear your turquoise team shirt to school and around town on this day. We will give all swimmers a team tattoo that are wearing their team shirt on this day. This will be a team building day with a great opportunity to get to know swimmers in other groups. 
 
 
 
 
 
REAL Hawaiian Luau SPIRIT WEEK (July 30-Aug 2)
Combined Practice Times for July 30st - Aug 2nd :
4:30-6:30pm – 11 & Overs
6:00-7:30pm – 10 & Unders
It’s time to start getting ready for REAL Summer Championships! The theme for REAL Championships this year is Hawaiian Luau. Start getting your Hawaiian Luau costumes ready for the REAL costume parade. We are dividing the practice times during Spirt Week by ages. Swimmers 11 years and older will practice from 4:30-6:30pm and swimmers 10 years of age and younger will practice from 6:00-7:30pm. This will enable our swimmers to be able to work together on their REAL Relays (8&Under, 9-10, 11-12 & 13 & Over) and team cheers. This will also give our older swimmers a chance to help work with some of our younger swimmers.
  REAL’s HAWAIIAN LUAU SPIRIT WEEK SCHEDULE
Monday July 30st – Team Cheer Day
On this day we will be working on our team cheers. From 6:00-6:30pm we will be doing team cheers together as a team. Make sure to bring your loud voice and team spirit.
 
Tuesday July 31st  Poster Making Day
From 6:00-6:30pm on this day All Groups will create “Good Luck” posters to hang up at REAL Championships.
 
Wednesday Aug 1st Relay Day
On this day we will be focusing on and running through all our relays for REAL’s. Make sure you are here this day so you can work on your relays with ALL your relay mates.
 
Thursday Aug 2nd  – Carbo Load Day
On this day we will be having a carbo filled potluck after practice. More info on the Carbo Load Potluck to follow soon.
 
 
 
 
 
SWIM-A-THON UPDATE
Great job everyone at the Shark-A-Thon. We really appreciate everyone who helped out.  Our current fundraising is $6,037 we are a little over halfway to our goal with a month to go to turn in money.  Sarah Melanephy will keep updating the fundraising lane line online. 
Top Fundraising Efforts:
The current top fundraiser so far is Nathan Cheng with $525. In 2nd place is Katie Marsden with $516 in donations. Mackenzie Kawashiri  is in 3rd with $465 in donations  Great job and keep it up!

LET’S GO CAMPING
Ukiah Dolphins C/B/A SCY Meet
July 20-22 2018
Get your sleeping bags and marshmallows ready!  On July 20-22 VJO will be attending the Ukiah Dolphins C/B/A+ SCY Meet and will be camping at the Bushay Recreation Area Campgrounds at Lake Mendocino. The price is $25-$30 per night with a maximum of 8 people plus 2 vehicles per campsite. Total of $50-$60 per campsite for 2 nights stay (Friday July 20th & Saturday July 21th).Campsites could accommodate 2 families. If we have 2 families per campsite we can split the cost.   Bathrooms and showers are close by. Campsites were mostly shade, however the October Wildfires could have change the amount of shade we have this year. This is the only Campgrounds open this year at Lake Mendocino, due to the October Wildfires. This campground will fill very very quickly. Get your campsite today.
How to Reserve your Campsite: 
Families interested in camping during the Ukiah Swim Meet, please make your own reservations. All the team reserved campsites have been taken by our families (B72, B74, B77, B78, B79, B80, B81, B82, B83, B84).  To make your own reservation call 1-877 444-6777 or go to http://www.recreation.gov/.  Choose Bushay Recreation Area Campground. We would like to keep our families close together, so kids are not walking through other people’s campsites.

SUMMER PRE-TEAM SWIM PROGRAM 2018 (May 1st –Oct 30th 2018)
Vallejo Aquatics is excited to offer the Summer Pre-Team Swim Program; designed for beginner level swimmers wanting to join and be part of the swim team. Our Pre-Team Program will start May 1st. This program is the perfect way to learn to swim and get swim team ready. Our professional coach staff will teach you to:
  • Swim a length of the pool (25 yards) freestyle using side breathing
  • Swim and length of the pool (25 yards) backstroke without stopping
  • Learn the basics of breaststroke
  • Learn the basics of butterfly
  • Learn a front somersault
  • Learn a head first dive
Requirements: Must be able to swim a length of the pool (25 yards) and be comfortable in the deep end.
Schedule: 6:00-6:45pm Monday-Thursday 
Fees: $80 per month & $45 Pacific Swimming Summer Registration Fee (onetime fee, good for entire summer)

Interested in getting in a good swim workout in or learning how to swim more effectively? Come join our VJO Masters Swim Group on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00-7:00pm. Met our amazing new Masters Coach Brendan Kerney.
WORKOUT TIME: Monday and Wednesdays 6:00-7:00pm
COST: $30/ month 
            $10 drop-in fee
USMS REG: Adults must be registered with US Masters Swimming to participate

UKIAH DOLPHINS SHORT COURSE C/B/A MEET – July 20-22 
The Ukiah Short Course C/B/A+ Meet on July 20-22 is CLOSED.   We will be camping as a team at the Bushay Recreational Area Campgrounds (different campgrounds from last year). This will be a very fun meet with lots of fun events (25 Free for all ages), fun relays and a fun time camping together. 
Meet Location: Ukiah High School Pool (1000 Low Gap Road Ukiah, CA 95482)
Time: On Friday please arrive by 3:45pm, warm-ups are from 4:00 to 4:45pm and the meet will begin at 5:00PM. On Saturday and Sunday please arrive at 7:15am, warm-ups will start at 7:30am and the meet will begin at 9:00am.

FAR WESTERN CHAMPIONSHIPS 
The 2018 Summer Long Course Far Western Championships Meet on July 26-29th is  CLOSED for entries. The meet will be held at Campolindo High School in Moraga. This is a qualifying meet, all swimmers must have achieved the FW time standard to enter this meet.
 
 
 
 
SUMMER REAL CHAMPIONSHIPS ***OPEN FOR ENTRIES***
August 3-5th 2018
LOCATION: Petaluma Swim Center, 900 E. Washington Street, Petaluma CA
ENTRY DEADLINE: Tuesday, July 24th by 7:30pm
ENTRIES: Swimmers may compete in one individual event Friday night and up to 3 individual events, plus relays on Saturday and Sunday.   Team entries will be done by Hy-Tek Team Manager so all paper consolidated entry forms must be turned in by Tuesday, July 24th by 7:30pm to the manila folder at the pool.  The manila folder can be found hanging on the team bulletin board next to the Shark Tank.
 -  Swim your best events! This is a Championship Meet and we are going for points. Talk to your coach if you have any questions on what events to swim.
-  All swimmers entered in meet will be ENTERED IN RELAYS unless coaches are otherwise informed. Count on being in a relay.
RELAYS: Coaches will enter the relays.  We will put ALL entered VJO swimmers in relays, so please notify the coaches if you are not able to be in a relay.  VJO will cover the cost of relays. 
START TIME: Swimmer are expected to arrive by 3:45pm to warm-up on Friday and arrive on Saturday and Sunday morning by 7:30am to warm-up. The meet will start at 5:00pm on Friday and 9:00am on Saturday and Sunday. The start time of finals (~4pm) will be announced each morning.
FINALS: The top 16 swimmers in each event will move on to swim in finals. All 8 & Under events and 9-10 relays will be swum as timed finals (in the morning session). Longer events will also be swum as timed finals.  Please check the meet sheet for the list of timed final events.
SPIRIT AWARD & COSTUME  PARADE : The REAL theme this year is Hawaiian Luau.  We will all be dressing up in the Hawaiian Luau fashion.  Breakout your Hawaiian shirts and hula skirts. We are trying to win the SPIRT AWARD this year! There will be a Costume Parade held Saturday before finals, make sure you have your costumes ready. Lots of items you already have at home could be used for a costume. All VJO swimmers please show your team spirit and dress with the Hawaiian Luau theme for the parade.  Let’s get that SPIRIT AWARD!
SATURDAY TEAM LUNCH: On Saturday afternoon, between trials and finals we will be having a team lunch together at the pool.  More info on the team lunch will be sent out after we get a head count.
