Monday Message for July 16th - PART 2

Monday Message for July 16th– Part 2

We have more important information to add this week…

INCLEMENT WEATHER CONDITIONS:  Please raise your hand if you shuffled into work this morning and said something like, “Yeah, on stormy mornings our family starts getting text messages around 5:30 a.m. Swimmers start practice before the sun comes up, rain or shine.  Besides swimmers and marching band families, who else has 6 a.m. practice?!

All joking aside, thank you for your patience on these stormy mornings as we balance the priority of safety with maintaining a practice schedule that has our swimmers prepared for their end of season championships.  If you think it’s no fun receiving the texts, try being the person who has to hit “send” on those pre-dawn alerts!  indecision

NWAA HIGH POINT WINNERS: Congratulations to Addison Wicklund, Morgan Glass, and Conner Boatright, who each earned the HIGH POINT award in his or her respective age group at the NWAA meet this past weekend.  We are proud of their consistency in the water and the recognition they bring to our team.

THURSDAY AFTERNOON PRACTICE / SUMMER LEAGUE MEET:  Due to the NWA Summer Swim League meet at The Jones Center on Thursday, there will be NO afternoon team practice.

Rookie Hawgs, this is our 4thand final meet before Champs meet next Tuesday!

A few notes:

  • · 3 events per swimmer
  • ·Warmups for Sea Lions are at 5:00.  Warmups for Wilson Park and Rookie Hawgs are at 5:20. Rookies, please be at the pool by 5:10 for marking and to prepare for warmups.
  • ·Meet will start at 5:45
  • ·All 3 teams have already hosted one meet this year. Most of the other teams have hosted 2.   Can we all help to provide timers?
  • ·Heat sheets will be on sale for $1.

FAREWELL TO COACH MITCH ALTERS:  After graduating in May, Coach Mitch has accepted the position of Assistant Women’s Swim Coach at the University of Richmond, Virginia.  Beginning at 8:45 a.m. on Friday, we will honor him with a breakfast celebration (bagels and donuts) as our swimmers say goodbye to him. He has brought tremendous coaching talent and impressive dryland training to our program this summer.  We will miss him greatly and wish him much success as a collegiate coach!

LAST CHANCE MEET – We have a very small group of athletes Saturday morning from NWAA, Fort Smith, Joplin, and a few of our own AquaHawgs who are attempting one last time to earn a state cut in one or more events.   As you can see from the  timeline, the meet begins at 8 a.m. and ends by 9:15. For those athletes who are working to earn another state cut, this is a really big deal.

Coach Brian and Coach Nick will run regular practice for Junior Hawgs, Wild Hawgs, and Senior Hawgs at SAC for those not in the Last Chance meet.  We still need volunteers to run the meet.  Would you consider taking a  volunteer position during this quick meet (maybe while your swimmer is at practice across town)?  We are reducing our volunteer positions to the very minimum we can use, and all help is appreciated!

RELAYSWIMMERS FOR STATE CHAMPS:  Last call if your swimmer would like to complete a relay team at State Champs meet, as we must submit our entry file later tonight.  Please call Amy at 479-445-2551 TONIGHT if you have questions or would like to commit your swimmer to Saturday and/or Sunday relays.

For now, that’s more of the news you need heading into the weekend.
