WEST Swimmer Saves Others During Boat Accident

A former WEST swimmer and instructor, Francesca Cook, was recently studying abroad for college and while traveling with other students and professors, their ship sank off the coast of Java, Indonesia. Francesca gave up her life jacket and helped guide six students to relative safety before swimming to shore herself. Not only did her physical water skills keep her safe, but her experience from years of swim team for both Jackson and WEST, along with her calm-under-pressure mindset allowed her to help save the lives of others. We are extremely proud of her and thankful she is safe. We send our condolences to the families of those that did not survive (two workers on the boat died) and remind everyone to be safe in and around the water.
