RENO News - July 31, 2018

Greetings from Clovis, CA. I am in Central California with 12 RENO swimmers for the Senior Western Zone Championships. The meet starts later today, and we are all excited for some fast swimming! Please read through this email for important Reno Aquatic Club information.

Practice Changes this Week

This is our final week of practice before our annual team break. There are some minor changes to the schedule this week:

There will be NO practice for any group on Friday and/or Saturday.

- There will be NO afternoon workouts for the Senior or Pre-Senior groups.

- Hopefully, the smoke clears in Reno. If it does not, the Orange and Blue group may move to Northwest on Wednesday. For now, Wednesday’s practice will be at Idlewild. I will email those groups on Wednesday if it changes.

Western Zone Championships

The Western Zones Senior Championship starts today and goes until Saturday. Over 1,250+ swimmers from all over the west will be competing. We are looking forward to some great swims to end the season. Be sure to follow RENO’s Instagram Story for updates throughout the meet.

Futures – Good Luck, Alexia

Futures Championships is also this weekend in Santa Clara, CA. Alexia Taylor-Arredondo will be representing RENO. Futures is a high level meet with 700+ swimmers from the western US. Swim fast, Alexia!

High Country Championships

The local end of the season championship meet is the High Country Championship in Minden, NV. RENO has 30+ swimmers participating. The meet is a trials and finals format, so it will be a great experience for many of our swimmers. It is also a good opportunity for swimmers to get qualifying times for the Nevada State Championships in November.

Later this week, I will be sending out more information to those families attending.

Team Break

RENO’s annual team break starts next week and goes through August 19. This will be a great opportunity for swimmers to get into a good school routine before we attack the short course season!

August 20th Practice Schedule

When we return to the pool on August 20th, we will have a modified schedule for the first week. I am still awaiting confirmation from the City of Reno regarding lane space and times. Hopefully, I hear back soon, and I will let you know the schedule for this week.

Annual Team Meeting and Pictures

Our Annual Team Meeting and Pictures will take place Saturday, August 25 at 9:00 AM at Idlewild. Click here for more information.

Fall Practice Schedule

The fall practice schedule starts August 27. The schedule is almost complete. I am waiting for final confirmation from the City regarding one of our requests.

I do apologize that the schedule has not been published. I can say for certain that all the practices (except one Senior practice) will be held at Northwest Pool. The practice times will be similar to last year’s but not exactly the same. I will send this information once it is finalized. Thank you for your patience.

Summer Swim Program

RENO just wrapped up our Summer Swim Program. The program sold out with 50 participants. RENO’s Senior swimmers were the coaches and did a tremendous job. All the kids seemed to enjoy the six-week program, and they improved greatly. I am looking forward to several of the Summer Program participants joining RENO after the team break.

State Hotel Block

A big thank you to Kendra Follett for working on securing a hotel block for RENO for State in November. I should have all the information in next week’s update.

Upcoming Meets

Here are the next meets RENO will be attending:

The rest of the 2018-2019 meet schedule will be posted when we return from the break.

If you have any questions or feedback, please contact me.

Thank you and have a great week!
