CHINOOK SWIM CLUB ATHLETES SUCCEED AT PROVINCIALS!
The Tier 1 Provincial Championship were held this past June 22nd, 23rd and 24th in Kelowna B.C. Two of our very own Sunshine Coast Chinook Swim Club athletes, who had earlier this year competed and succeeded at the Lower Mainland Regionals held in Richmond B.C., qualified to attend.
Ava Hynd, 11 years old and Rory Scott, 12 years old qualified for the 12 and under Girls and 13 and under Boys, respectively. Both athletes participated in a total of 8 races each over the three day Provincial competition. The qualifying standards for this meet were based on the fastest 50 swimmers in the province of BC from last season.
In the 200 Meter Backstroke (that’s four lengths of an Olympic sized pool!) Rory Scott got a Tier 1 best time of 2:52.75. Rory’s was most proud of his 200 Meter Butterfly Stroke, completed in 3:07.31 which ranks him 33 in the entire province for those born in 2005.
Ava achieved best times in 7 swims. She is most proud of her 100 BK and 200 BK. Her time in 100 BK was 1:19.05 which ranks her 5thin the province and 17thin Canada. Her 200 BK time of 2:53.83 ranks her 37thin Canada and 16thin BC for those born in 2007.
