Manta Ray Aquatics hosted their annual Sizzlin’ Summer Open Swim Meet this past weekend at the Moses Lake Surf ‘n Slide. This was a large, 3 day competition attracting over 360 athletes, and teams from all over Washington, Idaho, Oregon, and Canada. MRA boasted one of the largest contingents of swimmers, with 45 athletes competing throughout the weekend. Among these 45 athletes were 5 Manta Rays competing in the first long course meet of their swim careers. Sophia Estudillo (9), Elysa Montgomery (12), and Eliza Bowen (16) all successfully completed long course events in their respective age groups. They were joined by brothers Sam and Liam O’Shea (10), who participated in their first-ever swim competition for Manta Ray Aquatics.
Though the weekend was long and hot, 17 Manta Rays managed to pull-off a rarely seen triumph in the sport of swimming- a perfect meet. These athletes managed to achieve personal bests in every event they successfully completed. In the 12 and Under divisions, Dallie Cobb, Aline Davis, Allie Hines, Dane Langshaw, Damien Paluch, Issabelle Parrish, Alexis Preston, Kora Preston, Britni Reed, and Alara Wilson all cut time in every one of their respective events. They were joined in this accomplishment by Lydia Jensen, Jordan Pack, Kade Pack, Mikhaela Parrish, Issac Patten, Brittney Richeson, and Lizzy Severin, all of whom participated in the 13 and Over divisions for Manta Ray Aquatics. MRA now looks forward to their culminating season championships slated to begin in the last week of July.
The Manta Rays would like to say a special thank you to the businesses that sponsored and donated to this event: Pita Pit, Genie, Walmart, Iceborn, Lowe’s, Starbucks, Isagenix (Melissa Heaps), Sloan Jorgensen DDS, & Confluence Health.
