The Board of Directors of the Belleville Swim Club along with Head Coach Brandon Oates are thrilled to announce that Valerie Hayward has joined the club as the Assistant Head Coach.
With 25 years combined coaching and swimming experience, Valerie will lead the Age Group Performance and Age Group Development groups within the club.
Valerie is a fully certified Level 2 coach and is working towards completing her Level 3 accreditation. She has previously been a Head Coach at a team in Eastern Ontario for 8 years and while there progressed many of her athletes to qualify for Olympic Trials, Senior/Junior Nationals and Provincial competitions. In 2012 Valerie was part of the coaching staff for Eastern Ontario's successful 2012 Ontario Summer Games Team. Most recently Valerie worked under Head Coach Rob Novak at the Markham Aquatic Club.
Valerie also brings tremendous experience to the club based on her actual experience as a swimmer. At the age of 15, she joined the Canadian Senior National team and during that time (1976-1980) she represented Canada and competed internationally in places such as France, Germany, Netherlands, Russia and Japan. While at the FINA World Cup in Japan Valerie and her teammates earned a silver medal as part of the 4 x 100m freestyle relay.Valerie is a graduate of the University of South Carolina where she received a full athletic scholarship. During her time at USC she remained on the Dean's Honor role until graduating in 1986. As a proud Lady Gamecock; Val broke school records and attained All-American plaques in her specialty events (50, 100, 200 freestyle, sprint relays).
Valerie takes great pride in encouraging her swimmers to dream big and be fearless in their pursuit of those dreams!
