LCSC Coho Update 26 September 2018
Week of September 24: All practices to run as scheduled, except Friday (9/28). Friday practice canceled in favor of team social event.
September 28 (Friday): Team Social Event at 3 Cedar Farms
Enjoy an evening with LCSC teammates and families at 3 Cedar Farms: team hayride, corn maze, and Coho Bonfire! Sign up on the posted link and celebrate the harvest with fellow swimmers.
Week of October 1: All practices to run as scheduled, except Saturday (10/6).
October 6 (Saturday): Team Intra-squad and Suit Fitting at Rec Center
The goal of this whole team event is to build friendships among the team, have experienced swimmers partner with less-experienced teammates to learn the ropes of USA Swim meets, and allow parents to learn the different aspects of hosting a USA Swimming meet.
Parent Volunteers Needed for Intra-squad; NO Experience Necessary (well, maybe a little):
Timers: No experience necessary! Learn how to accurately monitor and record athlete times for the races. Ideally, we have 26 timers for this event. It’s a great way to watch the races and pass the time of the meet.
Officials: Some experience needed. If you have competitive swim background and are confident of the basic rules of each stroke, your presence on deck as an official will help young swimmers gain an appreciation of the difference between a summer club meet and USA Swimming events. Coaches will run a prep course with volunteers during the warm up. Ideally, we have 10 officials for this event. Having a good number of parent/officials bolsters the club’s ability to host events benefitting our swimmers.
Safety: No experience needed! USA Swimming requires safety marshals to monitor the locker room and pool entrances, the warm-up/cool down lanes, and the pool deck. Only athletes are allowed in locker rooms at USA Swimming events. Ideally, we have 6 safety marshals for this event.
Meet Management: Some experience needed. If you are computer savvy, working with Meet Manger software and double-checking results are key components of meet operations. Learn about the operations behind-the-screen. Ideally, we have 6 parents working meet management. Having a solid tech crew positively impacts our USA Swimming-sanctioned events.
Suit Fitting Assistants: No experience needed! At the conclusion of the meet, we will have a team suit fitting for all swimmers that are planning to buy a team suit. Helping families decide on proper suit size and ensuring that everyone follows fitting protocol make this part of the day a success. Ideally, 6 parents are able to assist on the suit fitting.
Please respond to the Team Intra-squad email that will be sent out this week. This Saturday morning event is short, 8:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m., and the volunteer opportunities will be a chance to learn about USA Swimming protocols in preparation for our December 2018 “Snowball Splash” and February 2019 “Polar Plunge” weekend extravaganzas. These volunteer hours do not replace the commitment to work at our USA Swimming sanctioned events.
Oct. 6 Team Coho Intra-squad Entry deadline: (4 Oct 18)
Please review the information posted above. This is a Team Effort Meet: all swimmers are strongly encouraged to participate and learn how USA Swimming meets work, and parents are encouraged to volunteer and learn about the nuances and protocols of hosting an USA Swimming-sanctioned event.
Oct. 19-21 2018 OLY Fall Classic Entry deadline: passed
19 LCSC swimmers will test the waters with the fastest in the region at this annual racing event. Stay tuned for details as we prepare to open the short-course season!
Oct. 26-28 2018 USSC Trick or Treat Grab Bag Classic (28 Sept 18)
This meet is excellent event for all Coho swimmers. Please select a minimum of 3 events per session (except Friday night). Entries close soon…please talk with your coaches if you have questions about entries.
~For the first month of the new session, all swimmers should have goggles, swim suit, and towel. Team caps will be provided to new swimmers.
~Full equipment recommendations will be posted at the Team Intra-squad.
Other Pertinent Information
A personal swimmer goal sheet is an important communication tool between swimmer and coach. It communicates the swimmer’s aspirations for the upcoming season. As much as possible, it is important for the swimmer to independently complete their goal sheet in handwriting. Coaches will re-explain how to fill out goal sheets at practice this week. Goal sheets are available at practice and on the team website, under the header “Resources,” and sub-header “Goal Sheets.”
