Week 7 - Being a Great Teammate

Happy Sunday Bengal Families!

I hope all of you had a restful weekend that helped you and your athletes stay HEALTHY! I did succumed to a cold this weekend but I am rested and ready for a great week talking about one of my favorite things. BEING A GREAT TEAMMATE!

Last week we talked about using competition as motivation which includes our teammates. This week we're talking about how to be a great teammate, even when things don't go our way. At every meet ,individuals on our team compete. Sometimes they go exactly the way the athlete wanted, sometimes they go the exact opposite of the way they wanted. With 68 girls on the team it can feel like a roller coaster going from excitement to sadness back to excitement. So how do we stay a great teammate when they had the meet of their life and you're down in the dumps? Here are a few things we will talk about this week.

  1. Focus on the Controllables: We can't change what the past but we can control our next dive, next race, next practice, next splash in the pool. We can control what we eat, when we go to bed, how we manage stress, and how we bounce back from dissapointment.
  2. Get Excited For Your Teammates: When we can't snap out of a bad mood, focusing on the accomplishments of your teammates helps you get out of your own head and allows you to support your team!
  3. Bring Your Best: As a team, everyone needs to bring 100% effort to the table everyday in order to have our team be at our best. Bringing your best self to practice, putting in 100% in every practice and meet is how we all succeed.
  4. Today We Will Do What Others Won't So Tomorrow We Can Do What Others Can't

Last week we talked about the "patience pitcher" and said some words of affitmation to our teammates. The only way we can hit all of our team goals is if we are supporting eachother as a team and being a great teammate. It includes showing up on time, being prepared and being positive!

We have a BUSY week ahead and it is getting cooler. Athletes should be dressing for the weather which means no more shorts and short sleeves. Athletes should be wearing long sleeves, pants, closed-toed shoes or crocs with socks and hats! We are inching closer to our end of season meets and it is imparitive we are staying HEALTHY so they can train and get the most out of the season!

Picture  Day: We have Team Picture Day on Tuesday. Athletes should weart their team suits to practice. Those who CAN get to practice early SHOULD so we can get through photos quickly and get to practice ASAP. I will be sending out the team photo fliers so if you would like to order photos you know how much to write the check for.

Raising Cane's Fundraiser: We have another dinner taken care of that also helps our team! Kim Wylie sent out an e-mail last week with all of the details just mention the fundraiser for Blaine Swim and Dive and proceeds will go to support our team!
