Good evening Families!
We wanted to send out a letter to explain all about this Saturday with the Intersquad meet and the Season Kick-Off Bash. We do apologize for the late notice but we were waiting to see what would happened with Hurricane Michael, the storms and its aftermath but it looks like we are going to have some great weather for Saturday.
First, we know there were quite a few events for your swimmers to sign up for. However, we have decided that all swimmers are just going to swim a 25 free and a 25 back. The purpose of the mock meet is for new swimmers to see and hear the sounds of the start of a race at a swim meet and for returning swimmers to get a refresher course. We will have an official starter explain the dos and don’t around the start of the race; The whistles and what they mean; and the sound of the beep that starts the race. We will not be taking times. This is strictly for education and fun! The olders swimmers will help line the swimmers up into somewhat age specific groupings. We will run every swimmer through a 25 free race and a 25 back race. This way they have the opportunity to go off the blocks to the beep and do a back stroke start to the beep.
Dynamic Warm-Up will begin at 9:15 AM
We will get in the water at 9:30 AM for warm-ups in the water
The mock-meet will begin at 10:00 AM and we hope to be done by 11 AM.
While the mock meet is going on, we will have 3 presentations going on for new parents to learn about volunteering opportunities during our swim meet season. From being a timer to helping at concessions, there are plenty of options available. A power point presentation will be emailed out with the info on positions as well.
Scott Jones will be talking about officiating and timing
Suzanne Blanken will talk about swimshop and concessions
Heather Nelson will talk about hospitality
When the swim meet portion of the day concludes, we have contracted Mortons Amusements to come out and set up various jump castles, carnival games, a dunk tank (with some coaches and possibly Senior swimmers sitting in it!) to be outside the YMCA for all the swimmers (and siblings) and other family members to have fun and enjoy from 11 AM - 3 PM. So please bring the whole family! There will also be a raffle with some fun items and swimming gear that people can purchase raffle tickets for a try and win.
A food truck will be here with hot dogs for free but there will be other items for sale as well.
This event is open to all swimmers and families and we have over 200 swimmers signed up already. Don’t worry if you didn’t sign up. For this event, you are still welcome to come and enjoy the PARTY! It's going to be an extremely fun event for all and we truly hope all of you can come and join us on Saturday kicking off the 2018-2019 short course season in style with the Rays!
