Folsom Fitness coming to Folsom November 2018

The Folsom Wahoos Swim Team is launching a new type of training program for all athletes this November.  This unique new program offers all the benefits of swim training without the cumbersome volunteer commitments.

Folsom resident, James Davies, a junior at Rio Americano High School in Sacramento recently piloted the new Folsom Fitness program.  James is 6 feet, 7 inches tall and getting into top cardiovascular shape without injury is challenging.  James trained in this new program to prepare for the upcoming high school varsity basketball season and the results are extremely positive.  James is in fantastic shape.  His basketball coach noted the difference.  Having a “big man” in this kind of shape without injury is exciting, said Rio Americano Varsity Head Coach, Chris Jones.

Davies worked hard in the pool and had a great attitude about the outcome.  Davies’ hard work and positive attitude earned him the respect of his training mates.

The new program aptly named, Folsom Fitness, has been designed to offer valuable cross training for athletes from all sports.  The program is for athletes in middle and high school sports.  The program uses dry land training to improve core strength, increase flexibility and build overall coordination and strength.  When young athletes focus on their primary sport without alternative training, repetitive motion injuries are common.  This training breaks up the  repetitive motion often seen in single-sport athletes.  Athletes will use the pool for about an hour each session to work on interval training to build cardiovascular fitness.

Athletes can purchase a one-day/week option or a two-day/week option through the Folsom Wahoos Swim Team.  Swimmers must be water-safe and need to swim a 50 yard freestyle in less than 1 minute and tread water for 3 minutes.  Contact to schedule an in-water assessment for this program.

The Folsom Wahoos Swim Team is currently in the fifth year of operations.  The team is a non-profit organization that is true to the team’s mission statement of “Building young men and women of integrity through the sport of swimming.”  The swimming side of the Folsom Wahoos continues to post strong results in and out of the pool.  Recently the team placed third overall at the Sierra Nevada Swimming Open Water Championships.

The Folsom Wahoos Swim Team trains year-round at Vista del Lago High School in Folsom, CA.
