Our 13&Over swimmers joined athletes from 6 other teams for a challenging competition at the TYR Distance Derby at Newark Academy in Livingston over the weekend. A total of 30 NJB splashes yielded two new team records, 5 Career Best Times, and 5 Top-3 finishes (including a First Place!)
Some notable swims include Career Best Times by Jillian Berg (-5.14 in her 500 Free and -7.79 in her 1000); Andrew Colligan (-1.89 in his 200 Back); Jordan Maruska (-1.99 in her 400 IM); and Billy Ruddy (-30.26 in his 400 IM) along with Top-Places by Jordan Maruska (3rd in the 1000 Free*); Jake Riva (2nd in the 1650*); Billy Ruddy (3rd in the 200 Fly* and 2nd in the 400 IM*); and Sam Russell’s First Place in the 200 Breast*! New Barracuda Records were set by Jordan Maruska (1000 Free) and Sam Russell (400 IM).

While these performances were impressive, the rest of the story was in the 13 first-ever swims (nearly half of our splashes). Many of our athletes competed in tough events like the 200 Fly, 1000 Free, 1650 Free (and more) for the first time. While they might have been a little out of their comfort zone, they swam past them to great success and grew as swimmers.
Congratulations to everyone on a great weekend, and have a very Happy Thanksgiving!
