SJL July Meet Announcement

2019 Far Western Championships

The St. John's Legends coaching staff is pleased to announce that we have selected a meet to serve as a substitute for the Canadian Junior Championships this summer.  This week we received approval from the Pacific Swimming organization to bring a team of swimmers to Moraga California (just outside of San Francisco) for the 2019 Far Western Swimming Championships, July 25-28th.

Canadian teams have headed to the Far Western Championships for decades and our staff is fired up to follow in this history.

One of the exciting aspects of selecting this competition is it's availability to swimmers in a multitude of age divisions... 10+under, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-18 age categories are available, swimmers aged 19-and-over may attend the meet but are not eligible for Finals.  The meet qualification standards are challenging, which is ideal for younger swimmers when identifying those who want to compete into late July and use this as a springboard to meets like Olympic Trials, Sr. Nationals, Easterns, and CJCs in 2020, and towards Canada Games Trials in 2021.

The Far Westerns meet also provides swimmers theability to qualify in either SCM or LCM, which is a nice considering the limited access to long course racing in our province.

Qualification standards are available HERE in PDF format (link pending, Team Unify server is down temporarily).  Standards are available on our Legends Twitter account.
