At the US Aquatics convention this past September, the USA Swimming House of Delegates voted to ban the use of tech suits by athletes aged 12 and Under (except for Junior Nationals, US Open, National Championships, and Olympic Trials) with the ban going into effect on September 1st, 2020. Subsequently, the Niagara LSC Board of Directors, during our October meeting, voted in favor of early adoption of the tech suit ban, effective as of March 11th, 2019. This date was chosen as it is the day after the completion of the Niagara LSC Short Course Championship meet and the Board felt that, since athletes have already been competing in these suits during the competition year, waiting until after the championship meet would be prudent. The details of how the ban will be enforced are still being worked out, but the Board of Directors wants the Niagara community to be aware that this policy will be coming.
