Fall means it's short course season for the Napa Valley Swim Team
The Napa Valley Swim Team recently kicked off its short course season in full force.
At the Orinda Senior Open Meet, Iona Pascual placed in the top eight in four of his events. He was fifth in the 50 freestyle (22.05 seconds), 100 free (48.03) and 200 individual medley (1:58.39), and seventh in 200 backstroke (1:58.39).
At the CBA+ meet hosted by Vallejo Aquatics, several Pascual’s teammates placed in the top three and 12 more achieved 100-percent personal best times in all of their individual events.
For the 8-and-under swimmers, Aiden Frisinger won the 50 free, 25 breaststroke, 50 butterfly and 50 breaststrokes, with a new A time in the latter, and placed second in the 100 IM.
In the 9-10 age group, Rian Dimalanta placed third in the 50 and 100 breaststrokes and the 50 back, achieving a new A time in the latter.
For the 11-12 boys, Yuki Hayashi won the 200 IM and Matthew Tapia took third in 100 breaststroke.
The 13-14 age group saw Kira Tavakoli place second in the 50 free, while Matthew Larson was second in the 200 breaststroke and third in both the 100 breaststroke and 100 back.
For the 15-16 girls, Ava Anderson placed second in the 100 fly.
Several NVST members posted personal best times in all of their events, demonstrating the hard work they put in at practice long before the competition began. They included Ava Osborne, Calix Apolo, Rian Dimalanta, Alexander Bazan, Noah Hattori, Abigail Burton, Jolie Davis, Nina Stanley, Holly Schofield, Aketzali Soto, Bradley Hutchings and Madison Gaul. The NVST athletes that came very close to 100-percent best times were Claire Hayashi (six best times), Jack Larsen (six), June Kelly (five) and Antonio Bazan (five).
Athletes who competed in their first meet with NVST were Ava Osborne, Rian Dimalanta and Raffy Dimalanta.
