Congratulations CIA swimmers on wrapping up a very successful Fall season. The team finished 24th at the Western JR National Championships in Austin, TX and was the top ranked team out of Iowa. This past weekend CIA went on to win the Snow Globe meet, with the second pace team over 500 point behind us despite that team having 3 times as many swimmers as CIA.
So what’s next? Yes, it was a successful Fall, but it’s never perfect. We have state meets and sectionals in just a few months that we need to prepare for, so the coaches are reviewing this past season and seeing where they can make improvements. After watching our below average turns, breakouts, and under water dolphin kicks, I know what the staff is going to be focusing on moving forward, along with many other items that need addressing.
As athletes you need to do something that is very difficult, you need to look at yourself in mirror and ask if you did everything in your power to make yourself the best swimmer you can be. Did you apply the skills the coaches were instructing? Did you push yourself to your limits? Did you attend all the practices offered? It’s very easy to justify your efforts, it’s very hard to be honest with yourself.
Swimmer development never ends. We had a good measurement of the swimmer’s progression these last two weeks, and I like where we are heading. But satisfied, no, I always want to be better and I hope the swimmers feel the same way.
We are CIA!
