In what has become the premier mid-season meet for the region’s finest swimmers, athletes from across New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York went head-to-head at Rutgers University for the Holiday Classic XXXII, hosted by Eastern Express. There were hundreds of swimmers from 42 different teams competing. Just qualifying for this meet (and getting in) is notable!
Our 5 qualifying attendees had an amazing weekend. This crew brought our up-and-coming team much recognition with 8 appearances in Finals, 28 Gold times swum, a few Sectional* and Futures* cuts, 14 Career Best Times, and 16 new Team Records.
With some events boasting 100+ swimmers, NJB grabbed a few top 16 scoring places. Swims like Jake Riva’s 100 Back (13th), 100 Free (6th), 200 Back (10th), 200 Free (6th), 50 Free (8th), and Sam Russell’s 100 Breast (7th) made NJB proud!
New JO/Senior Championships* times were earned by Jordan Maruska (200 Back, 500 Free); Jake Riva (50, 100 & 200 Free, 200 Back, 200 IM); and Sam Russell (100 Breast, 100 Fly).
Sam and Jake got their tickets punched for their trips to Speedo Sectionals in Ithaca, NY and USA Swimming’s Futures Championships in Greensboro, NC.

The NJB ‘ Record board’ has been reworked with 16 new Team Records by Peyton Berg (50 Free, 100 Free, 50 Breast, 50 Fly); Sam Russell (200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Fly); Jordan Maruska (500 Free, 1000 Free, 200 Back); and Jake Riva (50 Free, 100 Free, 200 Free, 100 Back, 200 Back).
And there were a ton of other great swims, including 14 Career Best Times, proving these guys are still getting faster!
Congratulations to our swimmers and coaches on an incredible weekend! Next up, the Winter Festival in Montgomery, NY…
