WAT Hires New Head Coach

WAT Hires New Head Coach

The Watertown Aquatic Team, known as WAT, is excited to announce the hiring of Carl Matson as the new head coach.  WAT officially extended the head coach position to Matson at their monthly board meeting on Monday night.  Matson replaces long-time coach Donna Schleicher, who resigned in October.

Matson began competitive swimming at Riverside University High School in Milwaukee, serving as team co-captain his junior and senior years.  He continued swimming at Luther College for two years before transferring to Winona State University to pursue an engineering degree.  Matson is a former WAT parent, coach and Administrative Official.  He also has experience running the Colorado timing system for WAT and WHS swim meets.

As the WAT head coach, Matson’s responsibilities will include providing administrative support and supervision to the coaching staff, and working with small groups and individual swimmers for more focused instruction.

When Matson is not on deck, he works at 2 Rivers Bicycle.  He is always looking for the next great getaway with his wife and two high school children.

WAT is a non-profit organization that provides comprehensive instruction in competitive swimming at the indoor pool of Riverside Middle School.  Currently in the middle of their winter session, having recently completed a successful meet in Brookfield where many of the WAT swimmers reached personal best times.  Winter session ends at the end of February.  A spring interim session is held in March for returning swimmers before a spring break before coming back for a summer session.  Dates for registration and summer session will be announced via the WAT website and the WAT Facebook page once finalized.  WAT looks forward to welcoming new swimmers in future sessions!  Questions regarding WAT can be sent via the website and Facebook.
