New Officials Meeting, Friday, February 1, LCRC Pool Office
Parents and masters swimmers interested in learning more about becoming a certified USA Swimming official are invited to attend a brief meeting on Friday, February 1, 5:30-7:00 p.m., in the Rec Center pool office.  Certified officials play an important role in providing a safe and fair environment at USA Swimming sanctioned events.  If you are planning to be poolside for a few years with your young swimmer, becoming an official helps our team provide better opportunities for our swimmers. Contact Coach Vince with any other questions you may have about the certification process.

The Coho Team “Fire Up” dinner is scheduled for Thursday February 21 at the One Under.  Swimmers and coaches will gather to enjoy camaraderie, recognize accomplishments at the District Meet and qualifiers for the Junior Olympics and State Championships.

Racing Update
Jan. 11-13   2019 BAC Winterfest, Saline West HS

Coho swimmers made a strong positive statement about Coho swimming at this early January event.  From 7-year-old Courtney Blamer’s excellent technique work in the 100 IM to Faith Robertson’s new team record in the 11-12 200 yard backstroke, our swimmers showed improvement in all facets of successful racing: better starts, cleaner turns, stronger finishes, and team spirit! Congratulations to our new team record breakers:
Bryce Coon: 8 & U 50 Br (49.73); 50 Fly (41.15); 25 Br (22.31)
Faith Robertson: 11-12 200 Bk (2:15.67)
Congratulations to our new State Meet qualifiers:
Kaari Peecher (400 IM, 1000 Fr), Colin Domeracki (1000 Fr), Natalie Pitera (1000 Fr), Amelia Hubbard (100 Fly), Faith Robertson (200 Bk), and Allie Allen (100 Br).
Feb. 1-3   2019 LCSC Polar Plunge, Livonia Community Recreation Center
Thank you to all volunteers making this a successful weekend for our swimmers!  Thank you, especially to Krista Dessin, our Meet Director, for the hours dedicated to excellent preparation.  Coaches will review final event selections with athletes at practice this week.  We consider this meet the culmination of work throughout the season and the prelude to the championship meet run.
Feb. 8-10   2019 OLY Michigan Open, Oakland University
10 Cohos will venture over to OU for this annual, highly competitive, meet prior to spring championships.
Feb. 16-17   2019 Michigan Swimming Districts
The entry level meet for the championship season.  All Coho swimmers that have not yet qualified for JO’s or above should plan on this meet being their last chance of the season to advance to the next level of racing.
Mar. 1-3   2019 Michigan Swimming Junior Olympics
The next level of racing is the JO meet. Qualifying times are posted at practice and on the Michigan Swimming website.  This meet is the last chance to qualify for state championships.
Mar. 8-10   2019 Michigan Swimming 12 & U State Championships, Jenison, MI
State championships are the highest level of racing in the state.  Coaches will review our results and plan for the state team members following the Polar Plunge.
Mar. 14-17   2019 Michigan Swimming 13-14 & Open State Meet, Ann Arbor, MI
Mar. 23   2019 8 & Under Swim Finale, Howell, MI

A fun way for our young Coho swimmers to finish the short course racing season.
Mar. 28-31   2019 Central Zone Spring Sectionals, Indianapolis, IN
This regional-level competition brings the best of the Midwest together for racing to the finish of the short-course season.
