SWIM FOR HOPE
This is one of our most anticipated events of the swim season! It’s our Annual Swim for Hope happening right at our pool on February 15, 2019. Are you wondering what this is all about? Here is some interesting information:
The Swim for Hope is a swim relay where participants (our swimmers) collect individual and corporate pledges. Coaches organize fun team building games all night to keep everyone having fun.
These young swimmers – with ages ranging from 6 to 18 years old – are members of 11 Swimming Newfoundland and Labrador clubs who, along with Community Challenge swimmers, participate in the annual Swim for Hope in communities from St. John’s to Labrador City. Since the event began over $2 million dollars has been raised. Yeah for our swimming community!
All funds raised are shared between the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation and the participating clubs of Swimming Newfoundland and Labrador. Proceeds received by the clubs of Swimming Newfoundland and Labrador will be directed towards supporting competitive swimming in our province.
The Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation is a registered charity raising funds to support the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre in St. John’s, Cancer Centers located in Gander, Grand Falls-Windsor and Corner Brook along with chemotherapy delivery sites around Newfoundland and Labrador.
Pledge sheets have already been circulating around the club and to the swimmers, so chances are you have already gotten your swimmer’s pledge sheet. If not, they are available for pick up at the Marlin’s swim office. Or reach out to club president, Kim Sullivan, at email@example.com.
Another neat way to raise money is through the Mount Pearl Marlins Swim for Hope Team that is now registered at www.swimforhope.ca. Individual team members can join the Mount Pearl Marlin Team if they would like to set themselves up for online donations. If you would like to register, please follow these simple instructions:
- First, select “register button” on top of the page
- Second, select “join an existing team” and type “Mount Pearl Marlins Swim Club” and search. Then follow instructions
To be eligable to participate in Swim for Hope, the first child in each family needs $100, the second $75 and the third $50. A $5 registration fee is taken from your pledges, then the remaining money is split 50% to Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation, 40% to your swimmers account and 10% to the Marlins. If you get corpporate donations the split 50% for Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation, 10% to your own account, and $40 to the Marlins. A t-shirt is included in registration.
Be sure to check out this year’s Swim for Hope Contest: The Nintendo Switch Challenge (see attached for details for an exciting chance to win!) Swim for Hope also awards medals for fundraisers of various levels.
