"In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock."
~Thomas Jefferson (1743 - 1826)
Good Morning TorpedoesNation,
Jan 21st (tonight) Practices Cancelled.
Because of the cold weather, we are being asked to cancel all practices this evening. We will resume normal practices tomorrow, unless the Vigo County School Corporation says otherwise.
Thanks to those families that made the wet and then cold trek to Columbus for the meet this weekend. We swam very well while there. Many new cuts occurred this weekend. A new state time for Ty Lauritzen, and a new divisional cut for Ariel Henico. We were, unfortunately, snowed out on Sunday. We are looking forward to making some major improvements for our upcoming meet at home early next month. We had some really strong performances from athletes, despite some challenging conditions at our home pool lately. It is wonderful to watch these athletes strive to improve and grow all the time. This is a big reason why I coach.
Our Diving callouts will begin tomorrow evening, Jan 22nd and also occur on Wed Jan 23rd, both nights 6:15 until 7:00. While there has been some interest from our athletes, we would like to remind everyone that diving is a separate sport from swimming, and requires a different skill set, in a number of ways. We are working to make athletes who are part of Torpedoes Diving, as well as Torpedoes Swimming, welcome. We will be offering a discount of $10 off monthly fees for these athletes, but due to restrictions of insurance, athletes must be registered through both USA Swimming and USA Diving separately.
Signups are closed for the Arctic Blast in a couple of weeks. If your swimmer did not get signed up, and you are interested, please contact your coach.
Also important, are parent worker signups. We are asking for 3 sessions from each family. We are trying to use this meet to raise money and keep our dues low throughout the year. Make sure your family is signed up, as we really do not want to charge anyone to work the meet.
Pike Last Chance Time Trial
The meet info is online for the last regular season meet of our winter swim season. The meet is in Pike Township, on the west side of Indianapolis. The pool is a phenomenal facility, often used for senior championship meets for Indiana swimming. This 1 day only meet is a great chance for athletes to swim those best events one more time to try to make championship standards, or use that meet for one last chance to improve.
Jan 21: Practices Cancelled due to weather.
Jan 22 and 23: Diving Callouts at VCSCAC 6:15pm-7:00pm
Feb 8-10: Arctic Blast Meet.
Feb 11: Deadline for Pike Last Chance Time Trial.
