Below is a note from one of our long time Dolphin members. She is encouraging people to support orphaned children in Haiti. If you have an interest and the ability to contribute it is certainly a good cause. Coach Mike
Dear Ukiah Dolphin Families,
In November, I stayed with the amazing girls of the Reveil Martinal Orphanage in Haiti. Thirty girls live there ranging from age 4 to 18. (More info about RMOF below.) While I was chatting with Wislande, one of the middle school girls, she told me that she is joining a swim team. For a variety of reasons, I was very surprised! We looked through tons of UHS and UD swim photos that were on my phone together. She told me she can’t do butterfly yet but is good at freestyle. She was super excited about it!
I learned that the girl’s swim instructor asked five girls to join the team. It is considered an honor and only something they will be allowed to do if they are doing well in school (and if the organization can afford it). I can’t imagine their team or swim meets look like UD, but my heart is warmed at the possibilities for these girls. Their swim registration fees have been donated. But for the 5 swimmers (plus a chaperone) to get to the pool by public transportation, it will cost $60 per month. I thought I would reach out to all of you… to see if maybe the Ukiah Dolphins community might want to help support these new swimmers. My goal is to get all of the transportation fees for 2019 covered. Should any of you be interested in donating a month of bus fees for these girls to get to the pool (you would receive a tax receipt), please send your check for $60 written to Hearthstone Village - “swim team” in memo to:

Thank you for your consideration! And don’t hesitate to reach out with questions.
More info about RMOF/ Hearthstone:
After the 2010 earthquake, a group of doctors and nurses from Ukiah went to Haiti to volunteer. They also had a goal to find and support an orphanage through Hearthstone Village Org. They connected with a Haitian couple who ran the Reveil Martinal Orphanage Foundation (RMOF) and partnered with them. Now Hearthstone Village (based in Ukiah - all board members live here) continues to support the needs of all of the girls at RMOF including paying for their educational, social and nutritional needs.
