CDSC New Years Invitational
Last weekend, over 60 of our VPSC swimmers competed at the CDSC New Years Invitational at the Vancouver Aquatic Centre. It was a weekend full of fast swimming, some long sessions at the pool, but lots of smiles and fun times! Below are some highlights from Coach Kassidie and Coach Andre, on some of the great swims from the weekend!
Highlights from Coach Andre:
This past weekend the Jr Provincial group participated in CDSC’s New Years Invitational. On Friday a few swimmers from the group volunteered to swim the distance events, of particular note: Hiro Hiruki swam his first 1500m ever! Shout-outs to Tyler Lee, Noah D, Alex Panos, and Tristan Govier for some solid swims in the 800 free.
On Saturday, the whole group completed a daunting event schedule with some swimmers doing the full day’s meet program of 8 events (plus relays). This was a chance for the swimmers to show off their mental toughness and I feel we really succeeded by pulling through as a group. It was great to watch the swimmers put in consistent efforts throughout the day, challenging each other from event-to-event.
Highlights from the day were:
- Seeing the whole group compete in their 400 IM’s. It was not merely an instance of swimmers “getting through” this event as I feel every swimmer put in a swim with purpose.
- The 14 & Under Boys relay: Was extremely proud to see Iden, Theo, Will and Albert out-touch the CDSC boys after a tough morning session. I guarantee our VPSC boys were fatigued by that point in the day, and it was great to see them pull through with a victory.
- Meet Records from Briana (11 & Under- 200 Fly & 50 Back) and Lily (12 year old- 50 Fly). Even while the girls had to complete the same tough program as the rest of the group, they still found the strength to break a couple meet standards.
Way to go VPSC!
Highlights from Coach Kassidie:
The two week Christmas Break didn’t stop VPSC swimmers from putting up some fast times at the Canadian Dolphin Swim Club News Years Invitational. William Liu swam to a provincial qualifying time in the 50 Fr with a 27.17 and dropped 6 seconds in the 200 Fr. Ben Nazif swam to best times in all 7 of his races. Lucia Pochnyok had a great meet including taking off 32 seconds in her 200 Brst. Jenny Xu and Mark Zhitnitsky both got best times in four of their races while Aubrey Peters and Brooke Soobrian each swam to 3 best times. Josh Warrington got his second Swim BC Age Group Championship time in the 100 Brst after dropping 6 seconds. Great swimming by all!
