January 18th-20th eight swimmers traveled up to the UofM to compete in the highly competitive Foxjet Winter Classic. The meet featured teams from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, and South Dakota. Our crew combined for 57% lifetime bests and added eight new Champ level swims. Everett Olson, Will Redetzke and Paige Steenblock all had stand out meets. Everett dropped time in all of his races and added four new champ times. Will was a near perfect 5/6 and added a pair of champ times. Paige was a perfect 5/5 and added a pair of champ times as well.
To go along with these standout meets were new team records which are listed below.
Lindy Edstrom beat the 17&over girls’ record in the 100 breast with a time of 1:12.37. The previous record of 1:13.04 was set by Kerry Brodziak in 2003.
Lindy also beat the 17&over girls’ record in the 200 breast with a time of 2:38.52. The previous record of 2:41.36 was set by Victoria Campbell in 2016.
Paige beat the 13-14 girls’ record in the 400 IM with a time of 4:48.36. The previous record of 4:58.83 was set by Caitlin Clements-Green in 2001.
Paige also beat the 13-14 girls’ record in the 200 back with a time of 2:13.88. The previous record of 2:15.11 was set by Caitlin Clements-Green in 2002.
January 27th 41 swimmers made the cold trek to Mankato to the annual Penguin Invite. Swimmers were asked to race 5-6 times in 3 hours but did a terrific job throughout the meet. Despite maybe being somewhat tired, the team showed no signs based on their cheering throughout the meet (we were the loudest team by far!). There was a lot of fun and a lot of smiles. Overall the team had 52% best times and nine new regional cuts were added.
Swimmers were allowed to swim four individual races. Those dropping in all four races included: Mae Bowers, Jim Graham, Lucy Graham, Ella Holleran, Katherine Hubers, Greta Kortuem, Summer Moeller, Oliver Momberg, and Peyton Truman.
We also had two swimmers in their first meet ever. Congrats to Odin Bergs and Molly Roethler, they did a terrific job!
A final shout out to Greta Kortuem and Summer Moeller for winning prizes in the end of AM session drawing! Swimmers were awarded rubber ducks for winning their heats and a drawing occurred at the end and two of our swimmers got a prize!
Great job by all who attended the past two meets! As we head into our Championship Season, it is great to see so many faces. Let’s keep it rolling!
